As the card dissolved, a holy angel appeared a hundred feet in front of the Abyssal Troll.

Six pure white wings. A shell-shaped helmet concealing the upper half of his face. His body was draped entirely in white, adorned with blue ribbons and golden accents. In his right hand, he held a gleaming staff.

[Card Name]: Angemon

[Quality]: Gold

[Rank]: Tier 3

[Type]: Summoning Card

[Story System]: Digimon

[Cost]: 500 Psionic Energy

[Effect]: Summons an Angemon.

[Trait]:Light of Hope — Upon entering the field, heals all allies, restoring 50% of their status.

[Trait]:Beast of Hope — Deals an additional 50% damage to dark-type enemies.

[Trait]:Holy Light — When T.K. is on the field with a Digivice, Angemon can evolve into MagnaAngemon.

[Evaluation]:An Angel Digimon with six shining wings, clad in holy white robes. His ultimate move is Heaven's Knuckle — a fist wreathed in golden light.

Ethan was genuinely puzzled by something.

Why was Agumon Purple while Angemon was Gold?

Was it because Angemon was in a league of his own among Champion-level Digimon? Or was there some other factor the system weighed?

He'd only made two Tier 3 cards so far, and both had come out Gold.

To this day, he still hadn't figured out the criteria that separated Gold from Purple.

Whatever.

It didn't matter how the system judged it. All that mattered was that he was about to make his move.

"Go, Angemon!"

At Ethan's command, Angemon surged forward.

The Abyssal Troll radiated its corruption aura in thick waves, but Angemon gave it no chance to close the distance. He stayed airborne, circling, maintaining a constant buffer zone.

Every few seconds — Heaven's Knuckle.

A golden fist of light streaked across the scorched battlefield and slammed into the troll.

But the damage wasn't massive. Maybe it was because Angemon's trait skills were spread across three different abilities — healing, bonus damage, and evolution potential — leaving his raw offensive output lower than a pure combat card.

One blast hit the troll's club. Another struck its shoulder. Neither caused critical damage.

Still — the spectators were stunned.

Big Big Wolf's forest fire had already blown their minds. Now Ethan had pulled out a holy angel?

Whether it was Ryan's two friends or Jake's group of three, none of them had ever heard of someone burning down an entire Jungle map in the opening round.

In the first twenty seconds, no less.

Ryan had hesitated for four or five seconds before summoning his Wolf King. And before the wolf could even see its opponent, it was incinerated.

Then three minutes of dead silence.

And now — an angel.

"Aren't angels... high-tier?" Sophie was confused. "I thought angel-type cards didn't exist below Tier 4. The lore requirements are supposed to be too demanding."

Lily frowned, pulled up the system rankings, and confirmed: "This card is Gold quality."

"Gold?" Sophie's eyes went wide. She'd never seen a Gold card in her life.

In this year's Low-Rank Card Master Tournament — from regionals to nationals to the world championship — the total number of Gold cards that appeared hadn't exceeded twenty.

And Ethan had just casually deployed one in a dorm-room grudge match?

"Didn't you check the rankings?" Lily said. "A new Gold card appeared last night called Angemon. It's ranked above Uzumaki Naruto."

Sophie scrambled to pull up the list.

There it was. Top of the Tier 3 rankings. Angemon.

"Do you think..." Jake squinted at the screen. "That Uzumaki Naruto card might also be Ethan's?"

During their training session two days ago, Ethan had only used Tier 1 and Tier 2 cards. They still didn't know what Tier 3 cards he had.

"No way," Sophie said flatly. "If he had two Gold cards, we'd basically be coasting to the championship. Gold cards don't just fall out of the sky."

"Pfft — it's just an angel," Danny said from across the platform, checking the rankings himself but projecting defiance. "Who says it's the Angemon? Maybe it's just a knockoff. A mutant variant or something."

"Yeah," the other friend chimed in. "Could be a totally different card that just looks like an angel."

Jake turned and stared at them with open contempt. "A mutant variant? Do you hear yourselves? You think card creation works like breeding bugs? My boy made the Gold card. Deal with it."

On the field, Ryan was reeling.

An angel?

Angel-type cards start at Tier 4. Everyone knows that. The lore complexity required to sustain an angel's prestige is enormous.

How is there a Tier 3 angel?

Shock aside, he had to solve the problem in front of him.

The Abyssal Troll was nearly unbeatable in ground combat. Ryan had never seen anything that could take it down in a straight fight.

But the weakness was obvious: zero anti-air capability.

Angemon wasn't engaging on the ground. He just kept circling overhead, firing golden blasts from range.

Hey — you're holding a staff! Why are you attacking with your fists?!

Ryan checked his remaining Psionic. 100.

He scoured his hand for a solution. Something to hit the angel. Something to pull it down. Or at least give the troll an anti-air option.

Nothing. Nothing useful.

Time ticked by.

By the end of round four, the Abyssal Troll's presence had dimmed by more than half. It was covered in burns and fractures, hunched over its club, utterly stripped of the menacing aura it had entered with.

Ryan exhaled.

Okay. The angel's attack power isn't actually that high. Its blasts are simple. By the end, the troll was learning to defend.

If this kept going, the troll would eventually fall. But it doesn't have to — because round five just started.

"I'll admit I didn't expect a summon like that," Ryan said over the open mic. "But it doesn't matter. This is where I turn it around."

He pulled a card.

"Come forth — Sandstorm Mantis!"

A hunched, yellowish-brown mantis materialized next to the battered troll. Its forearms were massive scythes. Its body thrummed with coiled explosive power.

This thing was fast.

The instant it appeared, it launched itself at Angemon. One leap — a blur of motion — and it was right next to the angel.

A scythe slashed down.

A long wound opened across Angemon's white shoulder.

Angemon shot upward, trying to create distance. The mantis landed, crouched, and launched again. This time Angemon reacted — raising his staff to block.

The impact was enormous. He blocked the slash, but the recoil sent him flying backward, tumbling through the air before stabilizing.

"Hahaha! So what if it's an angel?" Ryan's voice boomed through the speakers. "It still can't handle my Sandstorm Mantis!"

"Yeah!" Danny jumped in from the spectator platform. "So what if it's Gold? Still can't beat our boy's Purple!"

"Probably isn't even Gold," the other friend added.

Jake's jaw tightened. A minute ago, he'd been the one trash-talking. Now the pendulum had swung.

"It was two hits!" Jake fired back. "Two! What's there to celebrate? You two were dead silent a minute ago when the Abyssal Troll was getting lit up. Now suddenly you've got opinions? Must've been dying of anxiety over there."

While the three guys sniped at each other, Sophie and Lily kept their eyes on the battlefield.

"Why isn't Ethan playing another card?" Sophie murmured. "He should have enough psionic for another Tier 3 this round. The opponent already deployed — what's he waiting for?"

If he waited until Angemon went down, it'd be a one-on-two. If he deployed now, at least it'd be an even fight.

"No — look." Lily's gaze swept the field and caught something. "Big Big Wolf. He's been quiet this whole time, but he's about to come out."

Big Big Wolf had been working nonstop since the fire started.

At first, he'd been building Hyperforce mechs — the same type he'd constructed for Sparx during their earlier training sessions. But Ethan hadn't summoned any pilots. By round four, three mechs stood completed in the junkyard. Better quality than the first attempts, too — the wolf had experience now.

But they'd stayed hidden inside. Big Big Wolf's crafting trait meant items in a "manufacturing" state were invisible to observers. Only when a build was finalized did it suddenly appear.

After the mechs were done, Ethan had sent a new command: Forget the Hyperforce mechs. I need you on the field personally.

So Big Big Wolf had started modifying.

And now — right now — the modifications were complete.

Angemon pulled back sharply.

And from the edge of the junkyard, a sixteen-foot-tall dark mech stepped into view.
