After returning to the dorm, Ethan summoned Big Big Wolf, Sparx, and Taichi.

He'd used 300 Psionic to summon Pikachu earlier, but his energy had completely recovered by now. Summoning three Tier 1 cards was no problem at all.

"Whoa — is all this boba for me?" The moment Sparx materialized, his eyes locked onto the table covered in cups. He was already reaching for the nearest one.

"Take a few. Leave some for Wolfie and Taichi," Ethan said, then looked at Taichi. "Grab one for Agumon, too. Bring it back when you go."

"Sure." Taichi nodded. "That guy hasn't stopped talking about boba ever since he visited the real world."

"Haha, I'll just take one for my darling wife." Big Big Wolf picked up a single cup with a contented smile.

It had to be said — Big Big Wolf was truly the model of a perfect husband. Even while drinking boba, he was thinking of his wife.

"That won't be necessary," Ethan said, having already done the math. "Take one for yourself, and bring one each for Red Wolf and Little Gray."

"Then I'll graciously accept," Big Big Wolf said, not refusing the offer.

"Sparx, remember to bring one for Nova and Gibson too. The number should be just right."

"Huh? Those two want some too?" Sparx was already on his third cup. "They didn't even help today. Besides, Gibson's a genius — he can synthesize his own boba or whatever. Just give 'em all to me." Even as he spoke, he was stuffing cups into the crook of his arms.

The items vanished as soon as they touched his chassis — some kind of internal storage compartment. It was unclear where exactly a robot monkey stashed ten ounces of taro grape boba.

"Do what you want. If they ask you about it later, that's your problem."

"Tch. Fine," Sparx muttered, reluctantly agreeing.

Jake, who had been sitting on the edge of his bed watching the entire scene, was dumbfounded.

"Wait, wait, wait," he suddenly said after they finished chatting.

"What?" The wolf, the two humans, and the monkey all looked over.

"Summoning Cards are supposed to have basic intelligence when summoned, but they shouldn't have memories of previous summons. Why do yours remember stuff from their stories and today's training session?"

He'd been confused since the moment Sparx appeared and immediately started snatching boba — as if he'd been expecting it. And then they'd all been chatting like old friends, referencing things that had happened earlier.

None of that was normal.

"What do you mean?" Ethan asked, genuinely confused. "Your Purple card can't do that?"

The original owner of this body hadn't had a Purple card, so Ethan wasn't clear on the specifics. He only knew that Purple cards were unique and possessed their own intelligence.

"Exactly. When I summon Sir Ashford, he only has the memories baked into the card — his backstory, his personality, his skills. He doesn't remember anything from the last time I summoned him." As he spoke, Jake began the summoning process.

Both of them were diligent enough with their psionic training that summoning a Tier 3 card was no big deal.

A few seconds later, a young man in weathered green plate armor appeared in the room. He carried a longsword with a leaf-shaped crossguard, and his eyes swept the room with calm alertness.

This was Jake's self-made card, created during the second half of freshman year.

It was also the first Purple card in the entire Card Making Department.

A Tier 3 Purple card — Jake had bragged about it for an entire semester and became the top student in the department.

Unfortunately, his talent had hit a wall since then. He hadn't been able to create a second Purple card.

[Card Name]: Sir Ashford

[Quality]: Purple

[Rank]: Tier 3

[Story System]: The Greenhill Chronicle

[Trait]:Greenhill Commander — All attributes increased by 30% when using Greenhill swordplay.

"I am Sir Ashford of the Greenhill Order. Well met, everyone." After appearing, Sir Ashford greeted the room with a formal nod — then paused, clearly processing the sight of a robot monkey, a cartoon wolf, and a boy with a device strapped to his wrist.

"Ashford, do you remember our training session this afternoon?"

During the last two rounds of practice, Ethan's deck had been so dominant that the group had limited his card usage. That gave Jake the chance to summon Sir Ashford and fight a couple of rounds himself.

"I have no recollection of such an event," the knight replied after a moment's thought, his brow furrowing slightly. "Was I summoned earlier today?"

Ethan hadn't expected this. He'd assumed all Purple cards worked like his.

It turned out only his cards were special.

So was this a unique feature of his anime cards? Or was it his transmigrator cheat code?

He didn't know. Ethan genuinely didn't understand it.

He hesitated for a moment, then looked at Big Big Wolf — the first card he'd ever summoned into the real world.

"Wolfie, was there anything... different when you first came here? Anything unusual about how you experienced being summoned?"

Big Big Wolf thought for a moment and shook his head. "Not really. It just felt like everything was as it should be."

"For example," he continued, "I know I'm a card character. I know I need to help whoever's using the card and can't disobey them. It feels like that knowledge was just... engraved into my mind. And the time here and the time I go back to are always the same point. I return to the exact moment I left."

For Big Big Wolf, the rules were simple: he was a card. When summoned, he had to help. Whether he died in battle or the summoner recalled him, he'd snap back to the exact same point in his own timeline.

It was as if he was just being pulled out momentarily to lend a hand.

Ethan pondered this.

Engraved in the mind, huh?

Oh?

Is that how this setting works?

Next time, I'll make a—

Ahem. Just kidding.

He looked back at Jake. "See? They're just born this way."

"That's... really weird." Jake was equally baffled. He chatted with Sir Ashford for another minute — the knight was polite but clearly had zero context for anything that had happened today — then unsummoned him.

Ethan spoke with his three summons for a while longer, then sent them all back to their respective worlds with their boba.

After a moment of quiet thought, Jake looked at Ethan with a serious expression.

"Listen — in the future, never let outsiders know your cards have persistent memory. If people find out, there's gonna be trouble."

Seeing Sir Ashford's blank reaction compared to Sparx's instant familiarity, Ethan felt it too. Something about his cards was fundamentally different. Whether it was a cheat code or not, he had to be careful.

"Yeah," Ethan nodded. "I'll keep it quiet."

It wasn't late yet, and his mental energy was still abundant, so Ethan planned to make a couple of cards.

He only had thirteen in his deck right now. He needed to expand to at least twenty for the competition.

"Pikachu, you wanna stay here or go back?"

He looked at Pikachu, who was curled up on his pillow.

"Pika-pika!"

Translation: I've been out playing all day. Take me home.

Ethan recalled her.

The dorms in the Card Making Department each had a small separate room specifically for card crafting. After letting Jake know, Ethan grabbed a Tier 2 card base and got to work.

His deck didn't lack raw combat power. What it lacked was crowd control, enhancements, and buffs.

Like the card from the tournament the other day — the Little Match Girl. With just a bit of protection, that card could deliver a massive group buff lasting three full minutes. Commentators had said that when paired with the Tier 1 card Don Quixote, the resulting combat power rivaled a Tier 2 Purple.

Three minutes wasn't long. But it was a group buff. Applied to every friendly unit on the field simultaneously.

Or take common Arthurian item cards — things like Aegis Charm or Iron Skin Rune. Nothing flashy. They just granted a flat defensive boost to whatever card equipped them. Small effect, but useful.

And here was the key: those item cards could even be used on the Card Master themselves.

So it was essential for Ethan to design some overpowered item cards of his own.
