Time couldn't have move slower than it did right after Eva sat down. She was forced to watch as they ate, and during that time, they said nothing to her. She could only grit her teeth and sit quietly while also avoiding making eye contact with Holly and Nick whose gazes strayed to her once in a while.
She was touched that they would look out for her, making sure she was alright, but sometimes, she just wished they wouldn't look at all.
After almost ten minutes of total silence, Ace sat up. He picked up the glass and poured some water inside it.
"I heard something very interesting this morning," Ace said, glancing at her before taking a sip of the water like it was some wine.
"I wonder what it could be," Eva muttered.
His lips lifted in a mocking grin.
"Oh, it's about you, my dear," he turned to face her fully. "It seems you have found favor with a big shot, and that's why you are still alive."
Her hands shook on her lap, her teeth biting the inside of her cheek.
