Chapter 49 - Chapter 49 - Avatar Control

The Lost Vampire System Chapter 49 - Avatar Control

Back on the 17th floor of the NYXIS gaming room, the ropes which were electrocuting her finally stopped.

"CyberGirl," Madison growled as her true Cambion form had receded. "I used my trump card and now I have to wait for it to heal. Such a waste."

She ripped the ropes that bound her, and that's when Damion turned the corner. He saw Madison on the ground untangling herself from the ropes.

"Where is Jareth?" Damion asked.

Madison turned her head to see Damion and responded.

"Hello Madison, let me help you get those off. Why thank you, Damion. We must figure out where CyberGirl is because she is our age at this school and kidnapped Jareth."

"She's what?" Damion said with surprise. "How did she… she… she was nine when she created the game?"

"Yeah," Madison snapped as she finally got the last rope off. "She morphed a little bomb around his neck, so we have to find her. Also, why did you freaking put a 10-billion-dollar bounty on her head?"

Damion rubbed the back of his head as he answered.

"I wanted to make her feel what the less fortunate feel every day of their lives. The whole world against them in this corrupt system."

"Why do you hate the system?" Madison asked. "You're strong and clearly one of the strongest in NYXIS. You're at the top."

Damion dashed forward, catching Madison by surprise as he grabbed her neck and slammed her into the wall.

"You think I like watching the top bully the less fortunate?" Damion growled as his eyes glowed a golden color. "I hate this system. I hate the people that run it. If it was up to me, I'd burn it down, but that would only cause war, and after that it will just be replaced or worse, wiped out by the Lyracken. I need someone with those same beliefs, and Jareth has that. He can be the face of what I want to build, as I don't deserve it. Remember why I won't talk about my family, Madison."

Madison was slightly struggling to breathe, but she was in a weakened state due to using the full power of her true Cambion form. So right now, all she could do was little and hope that this Nephilim with his glowing golden eyes would soon let her go.

"I don't talk about my family, Madison," Damion continued, "because they are monsters. All of them are. My great-grandma is the worst of them. Contrary to what they believe, I know my history. They serve an abomination of this world. They need to go, but… but… she's too strong. I have only a single ally inside of the family, and now I'm sure he's dead after I got the last information and he went silent. If someone like Jareth can make a true Cambion believe in them, then I should too."

Madison's eyes widened as Damion loosened his grip a little.

"Yes," Damion acknowledged what she was thinking about. "I now know about your family and the Nightshades. If he has the system, whatever that truly is, and you two made a deal, I want in."

His glowing eyes dimmed and vanished as he stared into her eyes.

"If I did serve my family," Damion calmly said, "they would already be here."

He let go of her and backed away. Madison fell to the floor as she went into a coughing spree. She turned her head to spit against the wall as she looked at Damion.

"Yeah, he has the system," Madison said as she stood up. "Though he won't for much longer if that bomb around his neck goes off."

"Bomb?" he asked as he clearly didn't register it the first time she said it.

"Yeah," she said. "I didn't realize what I would say to see what your goal was would get me choked out."

"Yeah, er… sorry," Damion said. "Where would CyberGirl take him."

"She's the creator of NYXIS," Madison said. "I doubt she wouldn't have more than enough money to make a huge donation to get a VIP room. We just have to figure out which is her room."

Damion rushed off, followed by Madison after she went into his gaming box to grab his backpack and sword.

"A Nephilim and a Cambion working together," Madison chuckled, which Damion could hear. "Not on my bingo card."

Jareth was pulled into Arden's room, and the room was huge compared to his. There was a small bed in one corner. Another corner, which to Jareth looked like the biggest gaming setup known to man. There was a wall covered in different machinery and a single gaming box in each of the corners. Before he could clearly take it all in, she shoved him into the room and pointed her gun at him.

"Whoa," Jareth tried to say, but she just cut him off.

"What are you?" she demanded.

"A person," Jareth said half-jokingly.

"Funny, now what really are you? My dad's ai said Vampire DNA like it was unsure."

"Pfft, what?" Jareth said, trying to gaslight her. "Vampires? They're just fairy tales made to scare children."

Her eyes squinted as they glowed green, and part of his collar morphed into a little bug. It quickly crawled down his arm to his Forwatch.

"What is this?" Jareth asked as it crawled underneath the Forwatch, and he could feel it doing something to it.

After a moment, her eyes stopped glowing as she aimed her gun at his left leg and fired. An energy beam came out, hitting his leg and leaving a small hole where the attack hit.

"Agh!" Jareth cried as he fell to the ground, clutching his leg.

"You have been injured," the system announced. "Minus 5 Health Points. Health Points: 20 of 25. Energy: 29 of 40."

That might lower too quickly, Jareth thought as Arden began to speak again.

"VIP rooms are soundproof, and I messed with your Forwatch to show that your vital signs are normal," she explained, aiming at him again. "What are you?" she asked again. "Or so help me, I will shoot you again."

"Don't you need me?" Jareth questioned. "This isn't a way to get me on your side."

"I know you're not human," she said with a quiver. "What are you? Are you a Lyracken?"

"Ha," Jareth laughed as he looked at her. "Do I look like one?"

"A vampire?"

Jareth paused for a moment and decided he was going to say no, but that was a little too long for her.

"Vampire?" questioned Arden. "You… drink blood."

"Er, um," Jareth stuttered.

"You kill to survive."

"No, no, no," Jareth immediately said. "I don't need that much blood."

"So, you are one," she said with a smile even though her body was shaking.

"Are you excited or?"

"Stop talking," she practically shouted at him. "I need to think."

Arden began to pace like she was deliberating on what to do.

"Let me take over," Apollo ordered, "while she is distracted."

I think we can wait, Jareth thought to the god. She seems to be taking it considerably well.

"Who is CopyLord to you?" Arden asked as she spun around, now no longer pointing a gun at him.

"Pardon?" Jareth questioned.

"Who is CopyLord to you," she asked once more. "Is he a friend or what, because he just placed probably his entire NYXIS net worth to eliminate my player."

"Um," Jareth pondered. "Wait, why would it matter to you? Wouldn't you just have the same things again if you respawn again since you're the game creator?"

"No," she said. "Not after signing contracts that they threatened me with."

"Threatened?"

"Enough," she snapped. "Who is CopyLord to you?"

"Someone who hates the system," Jareth answered. "A friend."

She looked at Jareth with a curious expression.

A friend? She thought. My in-game rival is his friend? That's not possible. Jareth just started playing yesterday, so how would he know CopyLord? The only way Jareth would know CopyLord right off the bat is if…

Her eyes widened as she had a theory.

"He's our age," Arden spoke in a soft voice. "We're all the same age."

She pointed her gun back at Jareth as he placed his hands up.

"What now?" he grumbled.

"Who are the other two and why are they protecting you?"

"They're protecting me because they are my friend," Jareth answered.

Her eyes furrowed again as she asked, "No friend, no matter how close, would place a 10-billion-dollar bounty on someone else's head in a game, no matter how close they are."

Jareth had a confused expression on his face as he heard the amount of money.

"A… a… what?"

Jareth stuttered.

"You don't know?" she questioned. "I guess you were probably dizzy from me carrying you. Yeah, your friend placed his entire net worth of gold coins on my head. What are you that he needs so bad that he forgot that you don't die in real life if you die in the game? If I were to step a single foot back inside my own game, the entire population of NYXIS would march to try and claim that bounty."

"He doesn't know about the system," Apollo said. "Unless he does but didn't report you. All I can conclude about Damion is your slight anger towards the system that this world operates under."

That shouldn't be a case to put his entire net worth to get rid of CyberGirl. Jareth thought to the god.

"Unless," the god gave his theory. "He hates the system so much that he is literally willing to sacrifice everything to get rid of it. What traumatized him so much that he is willing to go to that great a length."

"You're thinking too much," Arden said as she got close to his face. "Who is CopyLord?"

"Not my secret to tell," Jareth defended.

"Well, it's about to be," Arden said as her eyes glowed green. "Where is Madison? I'll just ask her."

Her computer started to flash as files opened and hidden cameras that she had planted throughout the building came online.

"That's how she was able to create NYXIS when she was nine," Apollo said. "She is practically the computer."

"Where are they?" Arden questioned. "Oh well, let's see if your sister knows."

Jareth's face snapped like Arden had hit a nerve. His fingers were itching like he wanted to shred the collar apart and then attack Arden.

"Oh," Arden said. "Don't get the wrong idea, I literally just want to ask her—"

She couldn't finish as Jareth's thinking was gone, as the situation had caused him not to be in his right mind.

"Take over!" Jareth growled out loud.

"What?" Arden questioned what Jareth just said.

"About time," Apollo chuckled as Jareth could feel himself losing control of his body, and all he could do was see through his eyes as Apollo took over.

Arden had a presence sensor to detect how strong an individual was, and it went from low to soaring. Jareth's body let out a presence that was stronger than it should have been. His body started to have a light-yellow dim on it as Apollo stood up. The hole in his leg had vanished. He grabbed the collar, and all the light in the room vanished to focus on the collar as it shattered to pieces. The light returned to the rest of the room.

"Jareth?" Arden said as she backed up.

"Jareth can't come to the phone right now," Apollo chuckled. "I always wanted to say that. He can watch as I teach you not to mess with a god."

Jareth's iris glowed red while his pupil glowed yellow. Arden made a dash toward her console, and Apollo bent the light as he was sucked into it. A moment later, the light bent and he appeared in front of her path. Arden stopped in her tracks as she stared in fear at Jareth, who she suspected had made a deal with something she had only heard rumors about.

"I…I'm sorry," she stammered as she backed away.

"Now you're sorry?" Apollo mocked. "Apologizing after the cards are no longer in your favor."

"Who are you?" she asked as she stumbled back.

"Who am I?" Apollo stifled a laugh. "I am Apollo, god of the sun. What is your goal with my avatar?"

His eyes brightened for a brief moment as Arden took another step back.

"Apollo?" she questioned. "My dad's final message before he died said to find you. Offer yourself as an avatar. He'll help you escape. I didn't get what he meant."

Apollo stopped as he asked, "What is your last name?"

"Voss," she answered.

Apollo shook his head.

"I never knew a Voss," the god said. "Why do you need me so badly?"

"I just want to be free."
