Chapter 69 - The Controller King Descends

The forest did not change immediately.

At first, everything appeared normal.

Night had settled gently over the western woods, and the quiet life of Libertas continued beneath the canopy of ancient trees.

Torches burned along the wooden walls of the settlement.

Guards walked the perimeter.

Children slept safely inside the cabins built beneath Kael's protection.

From the outside, the forest seemed peaceful.

But the vermin knew better.

Beneath the soil, thousands of rats paused in their tunnels.

Spiders clung to branches without moving.

Owls stopped mid-flight.

Something deep within the ecosystem had shifted.

A signal.

A disturbance.

The vermin network trembled faintly.

And Kael felt it.

He stood alone at the edge of Libertas, looking out into the endless darkness of the forest beyond.

The wind brushed against the trees.

Leaves rustled softly.

Ashfang stepped beside him, the Alpha Direwolf's massive frame moving silently through the grass.

The wolf's golden eyes scanned the darkness.

"…Wrong."

Kael nodded slowly.

"Yes."

The system flickered faintly across his vision.

---

[Territory Disturbance Detected]

---

The message lingered for a moment.

Then vanished.

Kael's gaze drifted upward toward the dark sky.

Something far away was moving.

And the forest was reacting.

Behind him, footsteps approached.

Izazel stepped into the clearing with his usual relaxed posture, though his crimson eyes held a sharper focus than usual.

"You feel it too."

Kael did not look at him.

"Yes."

Izazel folded his arms.

"That… is not normal authority."

The vampire prince's voice carried something unusual.

Concern.

Ashfang's ears flattened slightly.

"…Big."

Kael's mind expanded through the vermin network.

Rats.

Spiders.

Crows.

Thousands of signals flowed through his awareness as he searched the forest.

For a moment, everything seemed stable.

Then—

The eastern edge of the network collapsed.

Not violently.

Just…

Vanished.

Hundreds of vermin signals disappeared simultaneously.

Kael's eyes narrowed.

Someone was there.

Someone powerful enough to silence the forest itself.

Izazel spoke quietly.

"…They've come."

Kael turned slowly toward the eastern horizon.

Far beyond the forest…

The mountains stood like black silhouettes beneath the moonlight.

And something was approaching from those mountains.

Something massive.

The vermin network shuddered again.

Ashfang growled.

"…Coming."

Kael did not move.

He simply watched.

Minutes passed.

Then the ground trembled.

It was faint at first.

A subtle vibration beneath the soil.

But the tremor grew stronger with every passing second.

The guards along the Libertas walls noticed it immediately.

One of them shouted.

"Movement in the forest!"

Torches shifted.

Weapons were raised.

Izazel's eyes narrowed.

"That is not an army."

Kael felt it clearly now.

Authority.

Not the thin authority of Tier-3 controllers.

Not even the heavy battlefield dominance of the Tier-4 he had fought earlier.

This was something deeper.

Something ancient.

The vermin network reacted instantly.

Across the forest, beasts began kneeling.

Deer lowered their heads.

Wolves retreated into their dens.

Even serpents buried themselves beneath the soil.

Ashfang stiffened beside Kael.

For a moment…

The Alpha Direwolf nearly lowered his head.

Then he forced himself upright.

"…No."

Kael noticed the struggle immediately.

Authority pressure.

Something was suppressing the entire ecosystem.

The system flashed violently across his vision.

---

[EXTREME THREAT DETECTED]

---

Kael's breathing slowed.

The message expanded.

---

[Authority Level: Unknown]

[Crimson Signature Confirmed]

---

Izazel stepped closer.

"…This is bad."

Kael did not answer.

The forest began to move.

Trees bent slightly as a powerful wind pushed through the eastern valley.

But the wind was not natural.

It carried pressure.

Authority.

The vermin network shrank further.

Thousands of signals faded away.

Only the creatures closest to Kael remained connected.

Then…

The trees parted.

Not from wind.

From presence.

And a single figure stepped into the clearing beyond Libertas.

He did not rush.

He did not attack.

He simply walked.

The moment he appeared…

Every beast in the forest knelt.

Ashfang's muscles trembled.

The Alpha Direwolf forced himself to remain standing beside Kael.

But even he could feel it.

The authority pressing down across the land like a falling mountain.

Izazel's crimson eyes widened slightly.

"…Impossible."

The figure walked slowly through the forest.

Tall.

Draped in dark robes threaded with crimson patterns that shimmered faintly beneath the moonlight.

His expression remained calm.

Almost bored.

Five sigils rotated slowly around his arm like orbiting stars.

Each symbol burned with terrifying authority.

Tier-5.

Kael felt the system pulse violently.

---

[SYSTEM WARNING]

---

The message expanded.

---

[EXTREME THREAT DETECTED]

[Tier-5 Controller Identified]

[Name: Veydris Cull]

---

The name echoed through Kael's mind.

The mastermind.

The leader of the Crimson Cull.

The man responsible for the marked beasts.

The Chimera.

The control towers.

The experiments.

Veydris Cull.

The Tier-5 controller stopped several meters outside the walls of Libertas.

He did not attack.

He simply observed.

His crimson eyes moved slowly across the settlement.

Over the guards.

Over the vermin.

Over Ashfang.

Finally…

They settled on Kael.

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

The forest remained silent.

Even the wind seemed afraid to move.

Izazel whispered quietly.

"…That is him."

Kael nodded.

"Yes."

Veydris studied him carefully.

The man's gaze carried curiosity.

Not hatred.

Not anger.

Just interest.

Then he spoke.

His voice carried across the forest effortlessly.

"So."

The single word echoed through the night.

"You are the anomaly."

Kael stepped forward slowly.

He crossed the open space between the settlement gate and the edge of the forest.

Ashfang followed.

Izazel remained just behind them.

Veydris watched the movement calmly.

"You have caused considerable disruption."

Kael stopped a few meters away.

"Yes."

The Tier-5 controller tilted his head slightly.

"You killed my prototype."

"Yes."

"You broke my control chains."

"Yes."

"You stole my authority."

Kael met his gaze evenly.

"Yes."

For a moment…

Veydris smiled.

Not angrily.

Not cruelly.

Just… pleased.

"Good."

The word confused even Izazel.

The vampire prince frowned slightly.

"…Good?"

Veydris stepped closer.

The authority pressure intensified instantly.

Ashfang growled.

The vermin network shrank again.

Yet Kael did not move.

Veydris stopped only a few meters away now.

His crimson eyes studied Kael like a scientist observing a rare specimen.

"You grow quickly."

Kael answered calmly.

"So do your monsters."

Veydris chuckled softly.

"Yes."

Silence settled between them again.

Then the Tier-5 controller spoke once more.

"You are not ready to fight me."

Kael knew that already.

But he did not show it.

"Not yet."

Veydris nodded approvingly.

"Correct."

The controller turned slowly.

He began walking back toward the eastern forest.

The pressure slowly lifted.

Before disappearing completely, he spoke one final time.

"Grow stronger."

His voice echoed through the forest like distant thunder.

"Because when we meet again…"

The five sigils around his arm flared briefly.

"…I will not come alone."

Then he vanished into the darkness.

The authority pressure faded.

The forest breathed again.

Animals slowly lifted their heads.

The vermin network began reconnecting.

Ashfang exhaled heavily.

"…Monster."

Izazel nodded quietly.

"Yes."

Kael looked toward the eastern mountains.

For the first time since the system awakened inside him…

He had met something truly dangerous.

And yet…

A faint smile appeared on his face.

"Finally."
