Chapter 29 - Chapter Twenty Nine, Customization

Alex was in the depths of sleep, exploring his dreams unconsciously. He was unaware of what happened around him.

Completely oblivious to the monsters being slain around him. As a huge battle surrounded Alex, with group three taking care of the infestation of abominations:

Although it was unlike any battle they had faced, with many variations of monsters. Their usual battles were just one specific type of creature.

This time, instead of just one there were many. Almost each monster was different to the one by its side.

This brought many difficulties to the fighting group. With the unpredictability and infighting of the creatures left the fighters confused and slow.

Despite this they were still handling the raid in precision and tactics. The groups synchronization and coordination were all constructed by one person.

Except it was not Alex nor was it Lyra. Instead it was man in his thirties. A man who had avoided attention until know, when it was absolutely necessary.

The source of his leadership tactics and power that he demonstrated on a centipede with poisonous legs obliterating it had all come from his experience.

A specific experience that gave him immense respect by everyone around him. This man was a military officer.

Not just any military officer but a major, this clearly reflected on his keen expression and excellent battle knowledge.

The man was quite bulky with the usual army buzz cut and the unusual casual clothe that were usually only worn by teens. Except these clothes were covered in the blood of the abominations he had slain.

Which from an outside perspective looked like his victims could be stacked into a tower. While the man wielded a large battle axe.

The man put so much force into his strikes that after cleanly slicing through the wretched abominations the blade of the axe seems to be completely lacking of any blood or other bodily fluids.

Now the man was approaching a nearby woman who was struggling to fend off a giant wasp. The man quickly moved her out of the way before taking her position and fighting the wasp

Like his many other previous battles the man tried to attack the wasp with his first swing. Except the moment his blade was going to obliterate the wasp it suddenly disappeared.

The man looked around in surprise before finding it just about to its left. Yet its dodge was so quick the man had not even seen its movements.

The man then unleashed a fury of barrages, quickly swinging back and forth over and over. He never gave the wasp an opportunity to pause.

Although he also never gave himself a moment to pause. This had led to the man's exhaustion, as his attacks became slower and slower.

While the wasp finally find long an opening swooped in attacking the man with its stinger. The man instead dodged to the right.

Quickly reacting to this the wasp turned around to continue its attack. Although it was met by an axe to its head after turning.

Yet instead of stopping at the head the axe continued through separating the wasp into two.

At this point most would stop yet the man didn't, as he unleashed another barrage of swings on the wasp.

This had seemed completely illogical, and it was, the man had no reason to do it other than to show off.

Although the performance was watched by no one, as everyone else had their own battles. After the man had noticed his lack of attention he stopped his swings.

The moment he did the wasp fell to the ground in small chunks. Separated into thousands of tiny pieces.

Seeing this the ma let a wide grin overtake his face before he traveled over to his next victim while seemingly dancing in excitement.

As the morning came Alex's group was woken up early by group three. Except not many had to be waken up.

Sadly most of the people had woken up during the diverse raid the previous group fended off. Alex was one of the few that had impossibly slept through the entirety of the fight.

Once up Alex had quickly noted what the conditions of the camp were like. What he saw left him shocked.

As all around Alex were dead bodies and corpses of a group of all different abominations. Alex had many questions form in his mind.

Before he could think about them one of the men from the previous group waked up to him. Surprisingly it was one of his men that he had led in his hunting group.

"Hey boss just wanted to report that there was a huge raid of monsters last night, Suprisingly all of them were unique from each other, sadly I don't know why."

"Thanks a lot, go get rest now we have a lot of hiking and walking today."

The man grinned as a formality before walking off to a makeshift bed he had previously made. While most of Alex's thoughts and some of his answers were repeated by the man.

Although Alex was still confused about one large detail.

How the hell were there so many unique abominations working together.

This was Alex's main concern, believing a master mind to be behind the immense diversity of the group of creatures.

Although it could also be a coincidence Alex didn't want to make presumptions that could underestimate their situation.

This was by far Alex's main concern, and although he didn't voice it he could see the distrust in the coincidence in his groups reactions.

Except what Alex didn't know and wasn't told was about the constant infighting of the creatures. While the distrust was really just weariness.

Alex instead had another question creep into his mind. As he was extremely confused at how the third group had dealt with the problem.

Both Alex and Lyra were in different shifts than three and he hadn't seen Lyra awake when he had awoken.

This didn't mean much but Alex decided to dig deeper during the morning. Alex knew that the people that had been in the third shift would know the reason for their Victory.

Yet it wasn't morning it was still early morning. So early that the sun hadn't even started to rise, leaving his surrounding shrouded in darkness.

Tasked with nothing and dealing with extreme boredom Alex decided he'd start to customize his system.

Alex then out of habit and instinct summoned his system by concentrating within himself. It was by far the harder way out of the two known ways.

Except Alex had grown accustomed to the strange and difficult process. Although now after weeks of practice it had become second nature.

Alex didn't even need to concentrate to summon his system anymore. All he needed to do was just summon it, to him it was as simple as that, holding no extra processes.

Once it flickered into appearance Alex started pondering all the useful ways he could change his system.

Then the first thing he decided to add would allow him much more ease in the future, while also a way to navigate through dangers.

Alex had decided to add a bestiary. Not only would this allow him to keep track of the creature he killed but he also planned for it to have many other features.

With Alex planning on including the creatures stage and realm while if possible its talent/ability.

He also wanted it to be able to state the creatures habits, weaknesses and strengths.

It would greatly strengthen their entire group with a great source of knowledge. The only thing Alex was hesitant about was if the system would allow him to.

Well best way to check is to test it out. Hey system can you make a bestiary that includes the creatures stage, realm, weakness, strength, and talents?

[I can create a bestiary that show its details that you listed, but for strengths, weaknesses, and talents have to be figured out by you before their added you will also have to cause the creature to draw blood before its basic information is given]

Alex was extremely surprised by the generosity of the system. He was shocked that he didn't disagree with anything it had said.

He was also surprised when a saw another system screen pop up with a loading screen.

[10%/100%]

Alex waited a few seconds before checking the screen again to see how fast it'd go.

[10%/100%]

Disappointed that the screen had not changed and was still stuck at ten percent Alex decided to brainstorm more and more ways to customize his system.

After a while of brainstorming and waiting Alex watched as the loading bar completed and the display reached one hundred percent.

Alex waited patiently as he watched the all the systems screens flicker away before replaced by one.

Although it was the same information panel as before without any additions. Then Alex realized it wasn't the same.

As in the top of the screen there were two tabs.

[Home, Bestiary]

Alex immediately selected the bestiary tab with a simple thought. After seeing Alex saw a list of all the abominations he had killed on the continent.

[…Gale Boar, Dream Spider, Rage Monkeys, Toughened Bear…]

Alex kept scrolling remembering each fight he had gone through with the creatures. Every once in a while Alex would check to description of the creature.

[Creature name: Dream spider

Creature stages: 2, 2

Creature realm: 2

Creature talents: Air blades, Dream infestation

Creature weakness: Slim gaps between carapace allow for severing of an entire leg.

Creature strengths: Immense battle knowledge, with the capability to use its talents in perfect synch with its body.]

Alex immediately recognized that some of the information he had collected himself. Although this made him weary that the info could be biased toward his thoughts.

This meant he could not fill rely on the display of the creature strengths and weaknesses.

Luckily it also was able to display the talents which Alex had already basically guessed, just without knowing the specific name.

Alex then found an abomination he did not have much information on.

[Creature name: Electrified Humming bird

Creature stages: 2

Creature realm: 1

Creature talents: ?, could be an electric shield.

Creature weakness: Whips

Creature strengths: Creates an impenetrable force field for any conductive weapon, it also can fly on all three axis's with quick speed]

Alex could see a significant difference between a monster he had studied for a month and one he had only briefly fought.

Alex had finished customization of his system by adding a ruins tab and making it easier to navigate through, while also adding a couple features.

One of the most important features Alex had added was a clock, it yelled Alex the exact time while also allowing him to create alarms that would only play in his head.

Once Alex had finished his system customization he decided to just wonder around the vicinity of the camp, making sure no creatures were near.

Surprisingly during his shift Alex had not faced any monsters. This had confused Alex, especially because of the amount of blood piled up near their camp.

So Alex had expected and prepared for raid of creatures. Except the raid never came, this had left Alex relieved.

Although it also let a sliver of doubt enter his mind. As with the small coincidences happening and on top of that Alex paranoia was at its peak Alex was making conspiracy after conspiracy.

Now instead of making conspiracies Alex wanted to check out the reason for the third shifts success, as the sun had now just rose above the mountains.

With people beginning to wake up and wander around while also greatly reacting to the mass piles of corpses.

Although only one person caught Alex's eye, really the ma had caught everyone's eyes. He was like a magnet to attention.

Although the magnet wasn't really the man, but instead it was his coat. It was coat fully painted in the crimson color and texture of blood!
