Chapter 31 - Chapter 31: Eidolon

Lazarus and his pokemon stand inside a training room. His Beldum who he named Eidolon is floating the middle of the room, while the rest of his pokemon play among themselves.

"Let's do it again. You are doing great so far. There is no pressure, even pure psychic pokémon take some time before they learn to do this," Eidolon hears his trainer say.

Following his trainer's instructions, Eidolon puts all his concentration on trying to locate Lazarus and form a psychic link with him.

With his sensor like eye closed, Eidolon uses his psionic ability to map the entire room in his mind.

After a few seconds of darkness he sees everything clearly, psychic energy marks everything in the room and turns it into information which Eidolon brain can understand because of his psychic typing.

He feels the presence of everything present in the room, the equipment, the other pokemon and even the light fixtures.

With enough time and practice Eidolon will be able to sense even the small nuts and bolts in the room. But for now this will suffice.

"After you are done mapping the room, you need to focus on separating living beings like me from non living things like everything else in this room." Lazarus says, standing not far from his steel and psychic pokemon.

And following his trainer's suggestion, Eidolon works on isolating his trainer's unique mental signature from all other unnecessary details entering his mind.

For a couple of minutes, his mind is lost in all the fluff, but then he succeeds in isolating the presence of living minds around him. The three other pokemon along with his trainers mental signature is clear to him. He then isolates a human signature and reaches out to Lazarus's mind.

An overwhelming feeling of excitement courses through him when he succeeds in forming a psychic link with his trainer.

His mind becomes one with his trainer. And he feels everything Lazarus feels, same as Lazarus feels everything his pokémon feels while they are connected through the link.

"I knew you could do it. I am so proud of you." Eidolon hears his trainer praising him.

Eidolon opens his eyes to look at Lazarus who is standing in the middle of the gym, smiling at him.

Lazarus approaches his newest pokemon and hugs his metallic body and Eidolon makes a metallic squeal.

"Very good. Now I want you to mingle with the rest of your family here. They will teach you many things. You are going to be the thread that will connect us all together so you need to understand all of us. I'm counting on you, buddy."

Eidolon has only been alive for less than twelve hours now so things are still very alien to him, the pokéball did convey to him the essential information, enough for him to understand human language but he still doesn't understand many things.

"Kamish, Aurora, Sol, all of you come here." Lazarus shouts.

All three of them stop playing and do as Lazarus says. Kamish flies through the air and reaches him first, Aurora runs towards him on all fours and his Chimchar, Sol, makes a few jumps to reach him.

"I want everyone of you guys to spend some time with your newest brother here," Lazarus says, pointing to Eidolon's floating body.

The pokemon become excited hearing that, they have been wanting to play with the latest addition into the family for some time now. Especially Kamish and Aurora. They didn't get the chance to interact with the Beldum last night, as it was newly hatched and needed to go through the pokéball conditioning first.

And today morning, Lazarus took him aside and talked with him for a few hours alone, so they didn't get the chance to interact with the Beldum until now.

Kamish squeals and approaches Eidolon, who curiously looks at the slithering dragon. Kamish uses his tail to poke Eidolon's body and gets surprised by how hard it is.

Aurora yips at Ediolon who she can't reach in the air. This is the second pokemon in the family that can fly, which is a fact she is a little irritate by.

Eidolon looks at her confused.

Lazarus senses his confusion, "She's asking you to come down to her level."

Eidolon is still confused at what she wants from him, but he does as asked and lowers himself down to Aurora.

Aurora yips in satisfaction and uses her paw to pat Eidolon's metallic head, and she too is surprised by how hard his skin feels.

Sol looks at the interaction from a distance, he just like Eidolon joined Lazarus's team yesterday so he still doesn't know how to behave around his fellow teammates.

Lazarus lifts Sol with his hands carefully as to not burn himself with Sol's flame tail, and looks at him.

"When I said everyone, I did mean everyone. You are a part of this family too. Don't act like a stranger. If you act like a stranger you won't be able to accept your position as a member of this family. Every member has a responsibility to maintain harmony inside the family, and if you act like a stranger you won't be able to fulfill the responsibilities you have, is that what you want?"

Sol shakes his head in worry. He wants to protect his new trainer and his fellow pokemon, they accepted him and he wants to repay them.

"So, go and meet your little brother."

Sol nods and excitedly jumps off Lazarus's arms and approaches the three of them.

Kamish and Aurora see him approaching and welcome him, Aurora goes to his back and pushes him towards Eidolon who looks at the fire pokemon with curiosity.

Sol carefully approaches Eidolon and reaches out his small hand towards him, Eidolon sees that he also wants to pat him like Aurora did, so he floats towards his hand.

Aurora and Kamish cheer when they see Sol patting Eidolon, and the steel pokemon seems to like it.

"Good," Lazarus smiles, "Today will be our last day here. It has been fun, but it is time to go. Aurora and Kamish have learned everything they needed to learn here, and I believe Sol doesn't want to stay here any longer either. Eidolon, I know I haven't taught you anything yet, but I think it's important we go on our journey now.

We don't have a lot of time left, the tournament I told you about is in twelve months and that is not a lot of time. We can teach you everything while we are adventuring all around the country. It's the best way to learn anyway and you will have three of them to protect you. Right guys?"

The pokemon all nod and cheer, especially Sol.

"And since we are leaving today, I want to say goodbye to some people. You guys stay here and play. I will be back in a few hours and then we will connect with each other though a psychic link. After that we will be able to feel what each of us is feeling. It is a beautiful thing when you know exactly what each of your pokemon are feeling, I can't wait."

Lazarus exits the training room and arrives at the arena, where he spots Marcus, Sarah, Rose and Greg sitting together among the spectators.

Marcus spots him and waves at him. Lazarus makes makes his way over and takes an empty seat beside them.

"Yo. Didn't see you here yesterday. What have you been up to?" Marcus asks Lazarus, which also gets the attention of everyone else.

Lazarus shrugs, "Got two new pokemon yesterday. I have just been spending some time with them."

Rose has a surprised look, "Really. Two new pokemon in a single day. Where did you even get them?"

"Do you guys know about the Chimchar that was abandoned?" Lazarus asks.

Marcus shrugs, "Yeah, of course. I am pretty sure everyone here knows about that. I even tried to convince him to come with me, I was sad when he refused. Are you telling me…"

Lazarus smiles, "Yep, I managed to convince him to come with me."

Sarah who was listening on on their conversation until now looks at him incredulously, "How? I literally begged him to come with me. I thought he would never go with anyone. We all did. How did you manage to convince him?"

"I just told him to accept reality, and promised him a new home. That's it."

Sarah smiles wryly, "You make it sound so easy."

"I am not saying that it was easy, but it was simple."

Greg chuckles, "Guess he is a better trainer then you Sarah."

Sarah lightly punches him in the arm, but she knows what he said to be true.

"So, what is the second pokemon?" She asks.

"A Beldum."

Marcus laughs, "Of course it is. Where did you get that one? From Champion Steven Stone himself?"

Lazarus just looks at him.

Marcus comes to the realization, "Oh my god. You did get the Beldum from Steven Stone. Holy shit."

Rose and others are also just as surprised.

Marcus sighs, "So, what's up? I know you didn't come here just to brag about your new pokemon."

"I came to say goodbye, I am leaving tomorrow."

Greg is surprised, "Already? Why are you in such a hurry? I don't think I have ever seen you rest here. You are either inside a training room or battling. Are you trying to speed run through the gyms or something?"

"Yeah, I am in a hurry. My father didn't want me to become a pokemon trainer, so he put forth the condition of me needing to win the Lily of the Valley conference if I want to keep being a trainer."

"Wow, that is harsh. But also understandable. Think you can do it?" Marcus asks.

"I do." Lazarus nods.

"Maybe I should buy some of your company's shares. If you become a famous trainer, I am pretty sure they will appreciate a lot in value." Marcus says with a grin and then looks at him, "I am rooting for you bro. Win the tournament and make us all proud."

Lazarus laughs, they talk for an hour more after which he goes back to the training room. He originally wanted to meet Mike during lunch but he decided to bid goodbye to Mike during dinner. His instructor deserves a special thanks after all.
