Chapter 36 - Chapter 36: Attacked

Lazarus commands a dozen drones to fly from the roof of the cruiser. The drones then split into pairs of two and scatter in every direction. He can see the drone footage on his visor, which provides him with sufficient visibility of the surrounding area.

Next to him, Kamish is sprawled on top of the cruiser's roof. He has spent all his energy reserves flying in the sky. He was doing air acrobatics for three nonstop hours.

Eidolon is trying to levitate some rocks brought to him by Sol and Aurora, there is a huge stack

below him.

"Alright, I'm done with the drones. Let me tell you guys the rest of the plan." Lazarus says.

All his pokémon approach him.

Kamish doesn't have any energy left to fly, so he has resorted to slithering like a snake. He falls from the cruiser and then swims through the long grass to get to Lazarus, and then slithers up his neck.

"Okay, so, here are the problems that we need to solve. I'll start with Eidolon, he is a newborn, so he doesn't know anything about fighting, but lucky for us, he doesn't need to fight anytime soon. Eidolon will be the defense of the team, his steel typing will give him great personal defense, and with his psychic typing he will be able to protect us well.

He will protect us against the mind attacks of other psychic pokémon. He'll be able to create a light screen to block any incoming attack or object, or use Levitate to get us out of danger. And that is what he is going to learn while we are here, levitation and light screen. Teleportation is difficult to learn, so we'll worry about that later.

Aurora can do a little bit of everything, she can use her abilities for defense by creating ice shields, her ice can also be used to attack or restrain pokémon. Later, she'll also be able to manipulate the weather as well. So, her ability to attack, defend, and terrain manipulation makes her the all-rounder of the team. While we are here, she will focus on improving the accuracy and control of her cryokinetic abilities.

Sol is a fire type, which are known for their offensive ability, and after he evolves, he'll become a fighting type as well. Nothing more needs to be said about what a fire and fighting type needs to do. He will be the attacker of the team. I will help him develop a fighting style while we are here.

Kamish can fly, so he'll be good at reconnaissance. There will be times when our drone won't work, we will compensate by having him do the work of a drone. He is also a ghost type, so he'll get really good at sneaking and being undetectable to majority of the pokemon, he has already learned to become intangible, and while we are here he will focus on increasing the duration he can stay in that state, and I also want him to learn to become invisible, with those two abilities paired with his ability to fly he will be our attacker and our recon.

And as he grows up, his dragon typing will allow him to unleash a tremendous amount of power. In short, he'll be very powerful.

Now those are the things you need to do. But you aren't training alone, I'm training with you. I will act as the command center of the team. I'll tell you what to do, how to do it, and when to do it. I will be responsible for preparing the strategies and our overall plans. I'll be the source of your knowledge, I'll asses the danger of a situation and make decisions based on that. I am going to learn everything there is to learn about you guys, which will help me develop your abilities, and I'm going to be your connection to the human world.

Beyond that, we also need to see how to work together as a team. You all have different abilities, and how we use those abilities will determine our collective fighting style. I am hoping our time here will help us get over these hurdles, but even if it doesn't, we keep working on them until we get better. So, yeah, that's all I have to say. What do you guys think?"

His pokemon all cheer, he has laid out his dream bare in front of them, and they accept it wholeheartedly.

Lazarus smiles, "Alright then, let's get to work. Oh, and Eidolon, do you have any questions?"

Eidolon indeed has questions, many of them in fact.

Lazarus answers the first of his questions, "I know how teleportation works, but I don't think I can teach it to you right now. I need to do more research on it, and besides, even if I did know, you don't have the energy reserves to be able to pull it off. But one day you'll be able to do it, and I am looking forward to that day."

Eidolon nods and then asks another question.

"I'll tell you how light screen works after you figure out levitation."

---

The pokémon are all hard at work. Eidolon is hovering above a stack of rocks and is trying to move them through the power of his mind, with very little success so far. A little further away from him is Aurora, who is practicing her ice-shaping ability.

Further away from them is Sol, who is being taught some basic martial art stances by Lazarus. Kamish is watching them, coiled around Lazarus's neck.

But unbeknownst to all of them, they aren't here alone. Underneath all that grass and pretty flowers, hidden away from naked eyes, is a burrow. Inside which is a creature that has come to the realization that some pokémon have encroached upon its home.

It is a long, purple, serpentine pokémon. It has slit-like yellow eyes, lines all over its body, and a rattle at the end of its tail, both of which are also yellow.

The Ekans slithers out of its burrow. It does not like someone invading its home, but that's also how it gets its food. By hiding and hunting anyone unlucky enough to fall victim to his venom.

Ekans slithers quietly beneath the grass, careful not to expose its body. It looks around and sees the cruiser. The snake has never seen a machine like that before, but it doesn't really care. It spots Lazarus and Sol next, the human is too big for it to hunt, so it looks for some other prey.

There is a pokémon floating in the air, the Ekans doesn't think its venom can reach that far, so that one is also out of the equation as well. But there is another pokémon nearby, a white fox pokémon. Tiny enough for it to swallow whole. The perfect prey.

Ekans gets close to the fox and prepares the paralysis venom within its mouth. The plan is to get as close to the fox pokémon as possible, inject the paralysis venom, and then swallow it alive, as fast as possible.

Aurora is trying to make a miniature model of the cruiser. So far, what she has made looks like a square with wheels on it with another smaller square on top. She decided to give the vehicle wings because everything should be able to fly.

She looks pleased with her work and wants to admire it from another angle. Taking a few steps, she moves a few inches towards the back of the ice cruiser, and that is when she hears it, a rattle and the crunch of dry grass.

She turns her head towards the source of the noise and sees yellow eyes with a black slit staring at her, and before she can even register what it is, the Ekans leaps at her.

She barely manages to avoid its mouth by moving an inch, but the Ekans catches her with its tail.

Aurora cries out in surprise and fear. She starts howling in panic as Ekans's tail starts wrapping around her.

Everyone senses her fear and panic through the psychic link. Eidolon is the first one, followed by Lazarus.

Eidolon catches on to what's going on, Aurora is afraid, and a new pokémon is near her. It must be trying to eat her, he deduces.

"Aurora!" Lazarus cries out in shock.

The Ekans's head snaps towards Aurora. It opens its mouth, and Aurora can smell the stench of the venom.

Just as Ekans is about to inject the venom into her, a rock flies into its mouth, followed by another and then another. Eidolon has successfully learned to levitate something for the first time, and he uses his newly acquired ability to make every single rock in that stack float in the air and hurls them all towards the snake.

Ekans is forced to let go of Aurora as it tries to protect itself against the incoming barrage of rocks. One of the sharper rocks manages to puncture its eye.

"Sol, Kamish attack!" Lazarus shouts, "Eidolon, make sure she is okay!"

Kamish is already on his way towards the one-eyed snake, who is now hissing in pain.

Sol looks at the snake, trying to run away after hurting Aurora, and hot rage courses through him. He still remembers the day he first met Aurora. She shared her food with him and patted him on the head. She accepted him as family, and now his sister needs his help.

Sol runs towards the Ekans on all fours, his rage and the jet of flames he generates underneath help him cover the distance between them in a matter of seconds.

As Kamish hits the Ekans with every ounce of power it has, Sol reaches the Ekans, tears open the Ekans's mouth with his hands, and unleashes a flamethrower down its throat. The Ekans wails in pain as the flame destroys its internal organs.

Sol then burrows his teeth into its neck and tears the seared flesh out.

Kamish envelops himself with dragon force and charges towards Ekans's body, he manages to tear through the flesh and comes out the other way.

The decapitated head of the Ekans falls to the ground, its blood dyes the grass of its home red, and the smell of burnt flesh is everywhere.

Lazarus reaches Aurora, who is being protected by Eidolon. He bends down and embraces her.

Her entire body is trembling with fear, this close of an encounter with death has scared her, and tears are spilling from her eyes.

"You are okay, Aurora." Lazarus says to her, as he caresses her back with his hand, "We are here, we will keep you safe. Nothing can hurt you now. We are all here. Nothing will hurt you. You are safe."
