[IRIS POV]
I left Alpha Rufus's office with shaky legs, the necklace a heavy weight in my pocket. I rushed back to Healer Felix's home, determined to check if the Alpha had indeed stolen my necklace.
Caius was downstairs at the pack house. He caught sight of me and immediately straightened, waving at me. "Iris! Over here!"
I ignored him, walking even faster. Alpha Rufus had made it clear that I was not going to have more contact with Caius than the necessary bare minimum.
But he clearly didn't give his son the same talk, because Caius dashed after me, his footsteps thundering in my ears.
"Hey! I know you saw me. Why are you ignoring me?" he asked plaintively, grabbing my wrist. "Where are you going?"
Then he took a closer look at the faint burn scar on my palm, and his eyes widened.
"What happened to your hand?"
