His firm hand moved steadily through the silverware as he ate his breakfast, still expecting Phoebe to appear at the dining table at any moment. However, as his meal gradually came to an end, she remained absent. His brows furrowed slightly, and his dark eyes shifted toward the main staircase, waiting for her to appear from the upper floor.
"Where is Phoebe? Why hasn't she come down for breakfast? Is she still asleep, or what? She wouldn't have left for the office this early, would she?" he finally asked, his voice calm but carrying clear concern.
Evelyn, who was enjoying her breakfast across the table, merely shrugged. "I don't know. I didn't go to her room to wake her earlier. Do you want me to go upstairs and check on her?"
Chris released a quiet breath before shaking his head. "No. Just finish your breakfast. She'll come down when she's ready. Perhaps she isn't hungry, or maybe she has something else to take care of this morning."
