Vice Prefect Lu could no longer contain his explosive temper. He kicked his son directly, sending him stumbling back two steps.
"Stop interrupting me. Miss Xiao is preparing to choose a husband, so I'm telling you to lie low for a while and avoid her."
"Why?" Lu Ping's eyes suddenly widened. "Dad, you didn't say that before! You told me that if I could marry Miss Xiao, I'd secure a powerful backer. Why are you changing your tune now?"
"You brat, don't play dumb with me. Don't you know Mr. Xiao's current situation? If things were like before, given your conditions, they wouldn't even give you a second glance."
Lu Ping curled his lips. Isn't that just perfect, then?
"Listen to your father." Vice Prefect Lu's voice softened. He was genuinely afraid this brat would act out of spite and actually bring a nightmare of a wife back home. "If it were his legitimate daughter, I certainly wouldn't object.
