Chapter 40
Kael's POV
Riven's voice echoed through the hallway, and at that moment, I felt something inside me snap painfully.
I turned slowly toward him while Tori remained beside me, but the moment my eyes landed on my brother's face, an uncomfortable tightness spread through my chest.
Riven looked amused. I'm sure he wasn't expecting me to open up to her. Everyone wouldn't have seen that coming.
"Well," he continued while folding his arms across his chest, "this is definitely new." A smirk slowly appeared on his lips. "You? Opening up to somebody?"
"Shut up, Riven." My voice came out sharper than intended. I had no idea if he was mocking me, or if he was just criticizing me.
The last time I had felt this way was a few years ago after someone had triggered it. It felt like history was repeating itself again and I was falling into another trap.
