BWDC:SDDK Chapter 92: Tracker Deployed (Conan: ? What just happened?)

"I say, what exactly is going on here?"

"Why are you in my house anyway?"

Outside the door, Conan asked warily.

Having suddenly discovered Ren Ichimonji inside the room just moments ago, Conan had put on his high-pitched child voice, claiming he had something to discuss with Ren, and proceeded to drag him out of the room.

Though, with his strength, he couldn't actually budge Ren at all.

Nevertheless, Ren followed him out, curious to see what "brilliant insights" Conan might have.

Sure enough, just as Ren expected, Conan immediately flipped into his "Spinosaurus" mode, looking ready to hiss at any moment.

In response, Ren simply placed a hand on Conan's head and said,

"I'm just here to check on my dear Robin."

"And while I'm at it, to crash the afternoon tea party."

Conan: ?

When did I ever agree to be your Robin?

Your real goal is just to crash the tea party, isn't it?

Conan's face darkened.

After knowing Ren for these past few days, he had more or less realized what kind of person Ren was.

While still a bit of a distance away from a God, he was already quite far removed from being a normal human.

One moment he's talking about trust, the next he's slapping a tracker on someone.

Could he have set his sights on Makoto Kusakabe this time? Does he think Prosecutor Kusakabe is some kind of dangerous element and is planning to pull something on him?

Conan asked suspiciously:

"Tell me, are you planning to bug Prosecutor Kusakabe?"

"I'm warning you, that would be crossing the line. Prosecutor Kusakabe is a genuinely good man—the only conscience and pillar of integrity in the Public Security Department of the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office."

"If you actually suspect him of having issues, then I think the problem lies more with you."

Ren: ?

"That's a bit hurtful. Do you think I, Batman, would suspect someone with zero criminal suspicion?"

"Though, I do feel that 99% of the citizens in Beika Town are just potential criminals who haven't committed their crimes yet."

Conan glanced back at the situation inside and whispered,

"Do you really suspect Makoto Kusakabe of planning something bad?"

"What could a prosecutor like him even do? At most, he'd be the type to blow a little dust in someone's eye, right?"

To this, Ren answered candidly:

"Makoto Kusakabe is going to pull a satellite out of orbit to nuke the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department and the National Police Agency."

"Because he feels the police system is rotten to the core. He wants to paralyze the entire system and strip it of its dignity so that the truth about the Public Security Bureau's abuse of power can be exposed, allowing justice to finally descend upon Tokyo."

"He'll tell you that for the sake of justice, some sacrifice is only natural."

Conan: ?

Are you kidding me? A satellite is massive—have you ever pulled one down?

The Public Security Bureau abusing power? Have you even met a Public Security officer?

And destroying the police headquarters will bring justice?

Who are you trying to fool with that kind of talk?

Conan didn't believe a word of it.

Even though that architect, Teiji Moriya, had already shown signs of being a "superhuman" eccentric, Conan still couldn't believe that Beika Town was so densely populated with such fanatics.

He certainly didn't believe that the widely praised and trusted Makoto Kusakabe would engage in such an irrational act.

---This was simply unscientific.

How do you even make a satellite fall? By using the Rinnegan to cast Tengai Shinsei?

Conan, who hadn't yet reached the "Movie Version" level of logic, was completely unable to comprehend it.

However, this was exactly what Ren expected.

Whether Conan understood it or not, the tracker was going on regardless.

A mere Robin shouldn't think about stopping Batman's operations!

Ren returned to the dining table.

Conan followed closely behind, pondering what method Ren would use to plant the tracker on Makoto Kusakabe.

---Forget it, I'll see it when it happens.

The Heisei Holmes was right here; could Ren's hand speed really be faster than his eyes?

At this moment, Conan had selectively forgotten the multiple times Ren had performed "magic hand" tricks right in front of him.

Don't ask—when the sun rises, you just forget about yesterday!

Poirot Coffee Shop

The counter at this shop was manned by a very pretty girl.

Her name was Azusa Enomoto.

Like Eri Kisaki's assistant, Midori Kuriyama, she was a character who had transitioned from the TV original episodes into the manga canon.

Ren greeted her.

Then, his gaze swept across the various seats in Poirot.

---He didn't see that mysterious, ghostly shop manager.

And Rei Furuya, who was supposed to be working here as a waiter to get close to Mouri Kogoro, was nowhere to be seen either.

No, that made sense.

After all, even Shiho Miyano hadn't turned into a child yet; it was still far from the time for Rei Furuya to make his appearance.

"Shall we wait at that window seat?"

Mouri Ran pointed toward a table.

To this, Mouri Kogoro, who was still yawning and looking listless, said unclearly,

"Sure, sure, I don't mind."

Conan followed close behind.

However, most of his attention was fixed on Ren.

---Back when this "superhuman" had stuck a tracker on him, he hadn't noticed a thing. Now that Ren was going to tag someone else, surely he couldn't be caught off guard again, right?

"Excuse me, how can I help you?"

Azusa Enomoto said with a smile at the counter.

Her first impression of Ren was quite good.

A person's first impression often depends on their appearance and temperament.

Clearly, Ren—having "studied" in the Batcave—possessed both as long as he kept his mouth shut.

He looked down at the Poirot menu.

However, at that moment, someone pushed the door open and entered.

Azusa immediately smiled and greeted him,

"Welcome! How can I help you today?"

The man turned his gaze toward Mouri Kogoro's table and said,

"An iced Americano, light sugar please. You can bring it over in a moment."

Azusa followed the man's gaze toward Mouri Kogoro.

Realizing who he was, she smiled and replied,

"Oh, so you're the one Mr. Mouri was waiting for! I'll bring it over shortly."

Makoto Kusakabe nodded slightly.

He wore a suit, and his hair was greying at the temples; he looked like someone who had poured a lot of heart and soul into his work.

As for Ren standing by the counter, he only spared him a glance before moving on.

Though the young man was indeed quite handsome, Kusakabe didn't recognize him and had no intention of starting a conversation.

Turning around, Makoto Kusakabe walked toward Mouri Kogoro's table.

Meanwhile, Ren checked his phone and said in a low voice,

"Ms. Azusa, please give me an iced mixed fruit juice and a set of donuts, thank you."

His gaze fell on his old-fashioned flip phone.

He gave a silent "tsk."

---As expected, Makoto Kusakabe's phone didn't yet have that program capable of controlling IoT vulnerabilities.

The era of the "Internet of Things" hadn't fully evolved yet.

It seemed he would have to add some "protective measures" to the man's phone before sending it back.

In the brief moment Azusa turned around to prepare the juice...

The back of Makoto Kusakabe's phone instantly disassembled.

By the time Azusa turned back and placed the juice on the counter, the phone had already been restored to its original state.

Conan, at that moment: ?

Why hasn't Ren made a move yet?

Did he give up because of my attitude?
