"I missed you so much, Gérard!" the girl's bright voice rang out as she threw her arms around him, hugging him tightly almost possessively. Yet Gérard made no effort to pull away.
After a moment, the girl seemed to sense another presence. Her head turned, and her eyes landed on Charlotte.
Her brows drew together instantly as she loosened her hold and stepped back. "Who is this?" she asked, pointing directly at Charlotte.
Charlotte stiffened under the attention, unease prickling beneath her skin.
Would Gérard be angry that she had come out to see who it was?
"Charlotte," Gérard said, turning toward her at last.
"My mate."
His voice dropped, deeper than before, firm and undeniable.
The girl's eyes widened in disbelief. "What?" She turned sharply to him, searching his face but he remained completely expressionless.
