Footsteps.

The sound grew closer… and closer… until it stopped right outside her door.
Her heart plummeted.
From the faint light slipping through the gap beneath the door, she could see the shadow of his boots.
A sharp knock echoed.
She flinched violently.
Her hand flew to her mouth as she held her breath, not daring to make a sound.
Maybe… if she stayed quiet…
Maybe he'd think she was asleep.
Another knock.
