I didn't bother to explain everything. His condition wasn't as serious as he made it seem, and staying here felt more like a quiet attempt to hold onto my attention. I met his gaze and answered simply, "Some matters to handle."
As I turned to leave, his voice followed me, colder than before. "You'd better leave Ashton soon."
I frowned but didn't respond. The tension in his words lingered behind me, but I chose not to engage and walked away.
When I returned to Macy's ward, she had already finished the pasta. After taking her medication, she sat up on her own, peeling green mangoes I had brought earlier. The sharp scent filled the room, mixing with the faint trace of healing energy that clung to the walls.
