Author Pov:
By the time Section E finally left the restaurant, the workers looked relieved.
Very relieved.
After hours of noise, arguments, and Ci-N's questionable speech, Section E was slowly making their way home.
The group filled the sidewalk as usual.
Felix and Drew were arguing.
Ci-N was still trying to defend his speech.
Jennie was threatening to mute everyone in real life.
Normal Section E behavior.
As the group continued walking, people naturally spread out.
Some moved ahead.
Some fell behind.
Jay ended up walking beside Keifer.
For a while neither said anything.
The cool night air was a nice change from the chaos of the restaurant.
Then Keifer glanced at her.
Keifer: Happy now?
Jay smirked.
Jay: Very.
Keifer: Good.
A few more steps passed.
Then—
Keifer: Fine. You won this time.
Jay raised an eyebrow.
Jay: This time?
Keifer: Don't push it.
Jay laughed.
Then Keifer looked over at her again.
Keifer: But I haven't forgotten.
Immediately, Jay became suspicious.
Jay: Forgotten what?
Keifer: Seriously?
Jay: Maybe.
Keifer: The date.
Jay nearly tripped.
Jay: Oh.
Keifer: Yeah. Oh.
He shoved his hands into his pockets.
Keifer: The one you promised before you went into a coma.
Jay stared straight ahead.
Suddenly the sidewalk was very interesting.
Jay: You remembered that?
Keifer: Of course I remembered.
His answer came so quickly that it caught her off guard.
For a moment, neither of them spoke.
Then Jay sighed.
Jay: I was hoping you'd forget.
Keifer: Not happening.
Jay: Worth a try.
A small smile appeared on his face.
Keifer: Saturday.
Jay looked at him.
Jay: Saturday?
Keifer: Saturday.
Jay: That's not a question.
Keifer: Correct.
Jay: You're impossible.
Keifer: See you Saturday.
Jay rolled her eyes.
But she was smiling.
Jay: Fine.
Keifer: Fine?
Jay: A promise is a promise.
The smile on Keifer's face widened.
Keifer: Good.
Neither of them noticed the figures several yards behind them.
Or the fact that the arguing from Section E had suddenly become suspiciously quiet.
Because hidden behind the others...
Ci-N had heard everything.
And judging by the look on his face—
That was a problem.
A very big problem.
Later that night.
The Section E group chat received a message.
From Ci-N.
Ci-N: Meeting tomorrow.
Felix: Why?
Ci-N: Important.
Drew: How important?
Ci-N: Extremely.
David: I'm interested.
Jennie: I'm already concerned.
Ci-N: Good.
Maya: What did you do?
Ci-N: Nothing.
Which immediately meant he had done something.
And somewhere across the city
Completely unaware of the disaster approaching
Jay went to sleep.
