The mention of Singed hit the room like a toxic cloud. Ekko's expression souled instantly, his hands trembling as he gripped his pocket watch.
"Singed? No!" Ekko barked, pacing the small workshop. "He's the one who gave Silco the formula for Shimmer. Do you know how many lives that sludge has destroyed? How many orphans it's made? I won't work with a monster."
Chen stepped into Ekko's path, his gaze steady. "We are talking about the survival of Zaun, Ekko. This isn't about the past; it's about making sure there is a future. Singed is the only one who can cook up an Alchemical Inferno—something volatile enough to level a Hextech battalion."
Chen knew the dark lore. In another reality, Singed's chemical weapons had wiped out the Wuji Village in Ionia. If they could point that terrifying intellect at the Piltover bridge, the war would change in a single heartbeat.
Ekko fell silent, his jaw tight. He hated the logic, but he couldn't refute it.
The Bribery of a Loose Cannon
To cover more ground, Chen began assigning the recruitment tasks. He turned to Powder, who was currently pouting because Chen and Ekko had "outsourced" her bridge-blowing job to a stranger.
"Powder, I need you to find Ziggs."
"Why?!" she snapped, crossing her arms. "I can blow up a bridge! I just need more scrap!"
"It's not about the bridge, Powder," Chen said, leaning in with a conspiratorial whisper. "Ziggs is a Yordle. He's fluffy, he's hyper, and he understands the 'romance' of a big boom better than anyone. You two will be best friends."
Powder remained unmoved until Chen played his trump card. "If you bring him back... one full week of magic marsh frog meat. All you can eat. My treat."
Powder's eyes widened. She tried to maintain her "tough girl" facade, but a stray bit of drool betrayed her. "You think I'm that easy to buy? One week of... crispy, juicy frog meat?"
"With extra dipping sauce," Chen added.
"It's a deal!"
As Powder prepped her board, Jinx's manic voice whispered in the back of her mind: "Hey~ I remember now. Back in the South Bank ruins... I saw a fuzzy little ball watching us blow things up. He was hiding in the vents, giggling."
The Hexplosives Expert
Ziggs had always been too "energetic" for Piltover. While he idolized Heimerdinger, his inventions tended to have one major flaw: they lacked a "Stop" button. After blowing a hole in the Yordle Academy wall, he had been politely—and firmly—asked to leave.
Heartbroken, Ziggs had been waiting for a boat back to Bandle City when he heard it: the sweet, thunderous music of an explosion echoing from the Sump below.
"The bigger the bomb, the better; the shorter the fuse, the better!"
He had followed the sound into the ruins of Zaun, and there, he had seen her. A blue-haired girl with twin pigtails, laughing as she tested her Flame Chompers. Ziggs felt like he had found his soulmate. But she had flown away before he could say hello.
Since then, Ziggs had set up a "Bomb Factory" in the ruins, perfecting his masterpiece: the Bouncing Bomb.
Boing. Boing. BOOM!
"Explosions are art!" Ziggs cackled, throwing a prototype into a pile of scrap.
"Oh~ I always thought you were just a hallucination," a voice chirped from above.
Ziggs looked up to see the blue-haired girl landing her board right next to him. "Oh! It's you! The blue little lunatic!"
"I have a doctor's note that says so!" Jinx giggled, waving a crumpled piece of paper Mundo had given her once. She watched Ziggs toss another bomb. "Hey, those bounce twice! Fun! Let me try!"
She snatched two Bouncing Bombs and lobbed them into the distance. BOOM! Ziggs's goggles fogged up with excitement. He had finally found someone who didn't scream "Safety first!" every five minutes. He reached into a massive crate and pulled out a bomb the size of a beach ball. "Want to try the Mega Inferno Bomb?"
"Quick, quick, quick! Bring it all out!" Jinx shrieked. "I'll show you my Fishbones! We can level this whole block!"
They spent the afternoon in a beautiful, destructive symphony, leveling three abandoned factories until their supplies were dry. Ziggs looked at Jinx, his fluffy chest puffing out with pride. "You're the first person who really understands me."
"There are still piles of things for us to blow sky-high at The Last Drop!" Jinx said, grabbing Ziggs like a stuffed puppy and plopping him onto a modified missile. "Come on, fuzzy! Let's go home!"
The two of them flew back toward the sanctuary, their laughter echoing through the smog-filled sky.
