Chapter 77 - 5 DAYS (4)

AKAME ASSASINATION (13)

BOOM!

"I think that was the last of them." The man in white spoke sheathing his sword. In truth he had expected the entire endeavor to take them at the very least 30 minutes, but with Gil learning fast and his expert sword skills they both managed to finish the creatures of in only five minutes.

Shiny fragments glow a mixture of light green and blue as the creatures bodies disintegrated into nothingness.

"Congratulations, you've just performed your first exorcism." Said the man in white.

SLAP!

He gave Gil a high five as the both of them looked pleased with the amount of work they had done, not to mention how swiftly it had been done.

"Thanks… although I didn't think an exorcism would be like this."

"Really?" The man asked, "How did you think it would be?"

"Maybe a dark room with a bunch of candles and a weird circle with symbols on it." (Blake introduced horror films such as the Conjuring and Annabel, so you can probably tell where this assumption came from.)

"I suppose that is how its depicted in modern media. But for sorcerers, an exorcism involves properly disposing of fragment voids. But you'll get to learn more about it later."

"Yay!" Gil shouted before taking a brief pause, "Oh, Catherine passed by here a few minutes ago carrying someone, didn't she?"

"Yes, I do remember that. The person she was carrying seemed like a local." The man injected.

"What do you think that was about?"

"Let's go ask and receive some answers."

Gil nodded and began running in the direction with which Catherine had gone.

'Something feels off I'd say.' Thought the man, 'Why would the Vatican try and kill me? Especially knowing I am a student of the sword-master? Its political suicide to try and sever that connection, which has me thinking that maybe it has more to do Akame than me. Then it must be the same Akame I'm thinking about, the one famous for the… I'd rather not think about it. But so far he hasn't made a move or I'd be dead, I better be on his nice side or else…'

 "Woah!"

His thoughts were disrupted by a sudden shout, he moved quickly to see what had happened.

 "What is it?"

"Its Catherine and Akame… there gone."

His eyes did not deceive him, in the spot they had left Akame he wasn't leaning against the tree anymore.

 "Where is the girl?"

 "She's not here either."

The man in white looked down and found the girl with the fancy attire face on the ground. He knelt and quickly turned her. He then placed his index finger on her neck.

"She's still alive, she's just unconscious."

"What happened?" Gil looked really concerned, as he should be. Akame was a sleep and showed no sigh of waking up, and Catherine wouldn't be much help she's gone through a ton already. "If I were…"

"There's no time to beat yourself up, let's just hurry up and find out what happened."

Gil nodded, "I agree, but how are we suppose to do that?"

The man in white stared intently at the girl, "Let's wait for our new friend to wake up."

***

 "I gift you this spear."

Back then it might not have looked like much of a weapon, hell it didn't look much like anything back then.

"But it will grow in time and soon you will see that not all that looks the way it does remains that way."

It was the dead of night, crickets sang their songs in the distance. A young Nala sat with her father, the current chief of her tribe.

"Name it the spear of life, and let it shine upon all those who gaze upon it."

She suddenly woke up with a start panting as though she had seen a ghost. That dream felt so real, tangible enough to be grasped in her palms. It really did bring back old memories she had forgotten whether intentionally or not.

She looked around, the crickets were singing their usual night chants, the fire before her crackled as each individual carbon atom burnt to form water and CO2 . The winds howled, the night was warm and the air felt humid.

"A storms coming." The man in white suddenly said, this caused the girl to look in his direction, she hadn't sensed him there, in fact right now she couldn't sense anything.

"Its really warm tonight, that's how I know. An old technique my parents used to tell whether we would be having a rainy season or not."

The girl didn't respond, not that she could anyway.

"Don't be afraid of him." Gil, who sat on the opposite end of the fire urged the girl, "He won't hurt you."

 GRRR!

She curled her face and snarled at Gil.

"?" He wondered, "What did I do?"

The girl felt immense pain on one half of her body, she couldn't even move that half of it.

"She probably doesn't understand us." The man in white told him.

"Maybe a bit of Kiswahili will…"

"No, I have doubts. Beleve it or not but Kiswahili was brought it by a group of people called the Arabs, so its not even native to this place."

 "Seriously!" Gil was actually shocked.

 "You didn't know that?"

"Its not something they would teach at the orphanage." Gil spat, "Also I don't get what that has to do with her not being able to speak it."

"Its completely simple." The man in white explained, "All those that have chosen this way of life resent the Vatican and their rule, as such they are known as resistors. Their used to be a lot of them a while back, those who accepted the rule were known as collaborators. Needless to say those who accepted shunned out those who rejected. What I'm saying is that her tribe probably rejected any contact with other tribes that accepted the new rule."

It was true, most tribes that had decided to live like this did not and would not allow for encroachment of their territory by any outsiders that accepted the rule, as such…

"They would not have learned Kiswahili from an outside source like most other tribes did." Gil answered.

"Good." The man smiled, "Your catching on fast. Which means she doesn't know English either."

The two of them sat there for a time wondering how they would deal with this situation.

Meanwhile the girl sat their intently, not knowing what these two were up to. She tried getting up.

GYAA!

But the pain on one side was too much to bare as such she gritted her teeth.

"Are you okay." Gil slowly walked towards her.

SPIT!

But instantly regretted that decision as she spat in his face when he tried to help.

"What was that for?" He yelled, his voice leaning more towards sadness that actual anger.

"She probably thinks we're the enemy, as such she'll do whatever it takes to protect herself. She's got a real warrior spirit." The man nodded to himself.

"That's great and all, but how is this going to work?"

The two pondered for a moment, just staring intently at each other. "This might be a really long night." The man in white sighed and Gil nodded.
