Selene's POV
The argument started before breakfast.
"You're not going," Damon said. He said it like it was already finished, like the conversation was a door he could just close and walk away from.
"I'm going," I said.
"You're the Luna. You don't walk into neutral territory meetings with an Alpha we've known for approximately forty-eight hours—"
"Cassandra knew my mother. Marcus honored a fifteen-year covenant without being asked to renew it. That's not nothing."
"It's also not enough." He tried to sit up straighter, winced, and immediately tried to pretend he hadn't. That man and his pride. Like pain was something you could just decide not to feel if you were stubborn enough. "Selene—"
