Selene's POV
Kira found out at breakfast.
I knew the exact moment it happened because the training grounds went completely silent—which was unusual, because Kira ran her morning drills like she was personally offended by quiet, like silence was something you attacked with your bare hands until it broke—and then her voice cut across the packhouse courtyard loud enough to rattle the windows in their frames.
"SHE DID WHAT?"
I closed my eyes. Set down my fork. The eggs on my plate were already cold anyway.
Across the table, Nessa pressed her lips together so hard they turned white. That look—that I'm absolutely not going to laugh look—I'd seen it before. Usually right before someone got hurt.
"You knew this was coming," Vera said without looking up from her tea. The steam curled around her face like she was some kind of oracle who'd already seen this whole scene play out and was simply waiting for the rest of us to catch up.
