Urdon Pov
I woke up and put my feet on the floor. The wood was cold. My right shoulder ached from the old wound. My left leg felt stiff. But I could stand without grabbing the wall. That was new.
I walked to the door and opened it. The morning air was cold and clean. I stepped outside and stood there for a moment. Just breathing.
Rex was already by the fence. He was pulling on one of the posts to test it. He looked up when he heard me.
"You are up early."
"Could not sleep."
"Your leg?"
"Better."
He nodded and went back to the fence. I walked over and stood next to him.
"Check the post," he said.
I reached out with my good hand and grabbed the post near the top. I pulled it toward me. It did not move.
"That one is solid," I said.
"It is. The next one is loose."
We walked down the line together. I moved slower than him but I kept up. I stopped at each post and grabbed it. Pulled it. Pushed it. Some held. Some shifted.
