"So this is the Rainbow Bridge? It's truly magnificent," Qi marveled, gazing with admiration into the golden sphere's interior. He had just arrived here from Valheim via the Rainbow Bridge, a journey that had taken no more than ten seconds, yet had traversed countless dimensions. The sheer distance could only be measured in light-years.
"If I didn't have the Space Stone, I don't know how long it would have taken with Earth's technology to get here," Chen Chen mused. After scanning his surroundings, he noticed a towering, muscular black man standing at the center, clad in golden armor and a double-horned helmet. His golden eyes were serene and detached, as if they could see through one's very soul.
The man held a sword in both hands, its tip plunged into a component. Countless white energy arcs, shaped like lightning, surged around his body.
"That's the King's Sword, the artifact used to activate the Rainbow Bridge," Thor said, noticing Chen Chen's curious gaze.
"The King's Sword? Then this must be Heimdall, the guardian of Asgard's Rainbow Bridge," Chen Chen thought, observing the man's solemn and majestic bearing.
Heimdall, the guardian god of Norse mythology, is responsible for guarding the Rainbow Bridge. With his Heimdall's Eye, which can perceive all things, he sees everything and hears everything. His daily duty is to stand atop the Bifrost, the Rainbow Bridge, and watch for any attacks on Asgard.
As the guardian of Asgard, he is one of Odin's most trusted servants.
"Heimdall, I've brought a friend with me," Thor said, gesturing to Chen Chen. "We need to discuss something very important with my father. I hope you can make an exception this time."
According to Asgard's laws, individuals from the Nine Realms must obtain the King's permission before entering Asgard. Even the Royal Family cannot arbitrarily break this rule.
Hearing Thor's words and glancing at Chen Chen, dressed entirely in black, Heimdall frowned. "Thor, you know the rules. Even members of the Royal Family cannot casually bring outsiders into Asgard without prior approval."
"This is an urgent matter, and I hope you'll forgive us," Thor said. He had always held deep respect for this guardian of Asgard, who had faithfully performed his duties and tirelessly worked to maintain the realm's peace.
"Rules that have stood for centuries cannot be changed," Heimdall said, shaking his head slowly, indicating he wouldn't make an exception. His golden eyes fixed on Chen Chen as he continued, "Young man, you are not an Asgardian. To enter Asgard, you must follow our ways."
"According to our traditions, I can allow female outsiders to enter if they are vouched for by a member of the Royal Family. But if the visitor is male, and without prior notification, he must duel me."
Gripping the hilt of the King's Sword, which was embedded in the structure, Heimdall drew it and pointed the blade at Chen Chen. "Only a man I deem worthy may enter."
As a quintessential Asgardian god, Heimdall possessed superhuman strength, stamina, speed, agility, and endurance. Compared to most Asgardians, he was even more robust and resilient.
Furthermore, Heimdall was a seasoned warrior and a formidable hand-to-hand combatant. He was proficient with all manner of bladed weapons and handheld implements, including swords, shields, and spears.
Moreover, Heimdall's armor and weapons were crafted from Uru, a special magical metal from Asgard. This metal possesses exceptional magical conductivity, allowing him to freely channel his energy through his weapons. Combined with millennia of accumulated magical power, his strength was undeniable.
"A duel? How cliché," Chen Chen said, rolling his eyes in exasperation at Asgard's archaic customs. He shrugged casually, spreading his hands and adopting a relaxed, almost lazy posture.
"Fine, whatever. Bring it on."
Sif immediately stepped up to his side, tugging at his sleeve. Her slightly parted red lips, exuding a delicate fragrance, pressed close to his ear as she urgently warned him, "I know you're confident in your strength, but there's always someone stronger. Heimdall is one of Asgard's ancient guardians, having defeated countless formidable foes. Even Lord Odin himself regards him with caution. You're no match for him."
Despite knowing him for a short time, Sif felt a peculiar connection to Chen Chen, similar to her feelings for Thor, yet more elusive and difficult to articulate.
*Perhaps it's because he's saved me several times,* she thought, her gaze subtly drifting toward Chen Chen. Beneath his dark hair, a pair of bright eyes sparkled, a mysterious light flashing within them. A faint, enigmatic smile played on his lips, as if everything lay within his grasp.
Chen Chen remained silent in response to Sif's warning. Instead, he slowly approached Heimdall. When he was about four meters away, he stood tall, his left hand behind his back. He extended his right hand, his pale, slender fingers—like jade—bearing no trace of the battle-scarred hands of a warrior.
"A mage standing so close to Heimdall? Isn't that like walking into a trap?" Fandral, the mustachioed dandy, stared at Chen Chen in shock.
"Sif, I think you should find this fellow a good healer first," Volstagg, his massive axe slung over his shoulder, said to her, his eyes fixed on Chen Chen.
"Heimdall is no mere warrior like Krumen. As an ancient guardian, the battles he has fought are far beyond Chen Chen's comprehension. The fact that Chen Chen is standing only four meters away from him is particularly foolish."
"I estimate this fight will be over in less than three seconds," Hogan said, crossing his arms and shaking his head regretfully. "At this range, even if Chen Chen could cast a spell, Heimdall would easily dodge it. For a mage, if their spell fails, fighting a warrior at close range would be a nightmare."
However, Thor and Sif remained silent as they listened to the others.
Sif was too worried to speak, her gaze fixed on Chen Chen and Heimdall.
Thor, on the other hand, knew Chen Chen's strength. After all, Chen Chen had defeated him long ago. He still vividly remembered the forest battle where Thor was knocked unconscious for the first time in his life, an experience he would never forget.
