Sunoo
I stood there in the hallway, my legs shaking. The ultrasound picture felt heavy in my hand even though it was just a piece of paper. Dad's words hung in the air like smoke.
"This is…a disgrace!!"
Mom snatched the picture from me before I could say anything. Her eyes went wide. Then they filled with tears. "Sunoo… oh my God." She stared at the small black and white blob. Her fingers touched the spot where the heartbeat showed. "This is real. My grandchild."
She started crying right there. Not loud, just quiet tears running down her face. She pulled me into a hug, tight like she used to when I was small. "Have you eaten anything? You look so pale. Come sit down. Prenatal vitamins — are you taking any? We need to get the good ones from the pharmacy."
I let her lead me to the couch. My stomach was still rolling from the taxi ride and all the fear. Tae stood frozen with chips all over the floor. Ji-eun had her hand over her mouth.
