I stepped out from behind Jor, keeping my heavy black bear jacket securely wrapped around myself to ward off the memory of the winter chill.
"Axis, our tribe is setting up a temporary camp just a mile east of here," I said, pitching my voice over the quiet rustle of the frosted woods.
"We've had a lot of trouble with the rogue avians, but... we've managed. If you're really out here looking for us, you should come to the camp. We have a lot to talk about regarding trade. And... safety."
Axis's heart seemed to do a violent flip inside his chest.
The ruthless rejection he had fully anticipated from the terrifying snake deity didn't come from me.
Instead, I was actively inviting him into our space. His dark, shimmering eyes dropped briefly to the thick, melted patch of damp earth where the two of us had just been aggressively coupling, the heavy, sweet scent of our lingering lust still clearly intoxicating his sensitive nose.
