Chapter 29. The Autumn Trade Festival (5)
"Bananas! I haven't seen this fruit since I arrived in this world!"
The chief glanced over his shoulder at my excited shout, a faint fond smile tugging at his muzzle, sliding one banana off the pile and rolling it toward my waiting palms.
"Lily, you recognize this fruit? If you wish to keep some for yourself, take as many as you'd like, this trade haul belongs to our whole tribe, and you come first."
The gorilla beastman nodded proudly, gesturing to his overflowing basket of bananas, chest puffed with pride over his clan's harvest.
"This fruit is beloved by every household in our hills. It grows ripe every single summer, though it cannot be preserved through cold weather like your potatoes, only enjoyed fresh while the warm season lasts, a rare luxury for all our kin who cannot stock sweet treats for winter."
Tigris plucked one banana from the pile and handed it to me, his thumb brushing slow over my wrist as I took it.
