Chapter 13 - A Choice of Two

The next thing I knew, the Woman in the Khaki Coat, whom I'd only glanced at briefly at the art exhibition, sat down quietly nearby.

Unfortunately, she sat directly behind me. If I kept turning around to sneak glances, I'd look like I had ulterior motives, so I shifted my butt to the left.

As the saying goes, to judge if a woman is beautiful, you first look at her profile. If her profile is just so-so, then chances are she's ordinary. But if her profile is stunning, then she's definitely a beauty.

To make up for the regret of not seeing her face properly last time, I shamelessly sized up the woman in front of me this time.

Just one glance, and it felt like all the ice in my heart instantly melted, replaced by gentle, warm spring breezes caressing the barren soil of my soul.

On this lifeless land lived only a lonely farmer. He was odd; he possessed two seeds, one a rose and the other wheat. But one day, a strange woman came to this land. Without hesitation, he threw away the wheat seed and planted the rose seed, even though he was close to starving.

"Sir, your noodles are ready," the waitress had been standing there for a while, and she had also spoken to me more than once, clearly frightened by my strange appearance.

"Oh, okay, thank you," I replied stiffly. I hadn't completely snapped out of it yet.

The woman in the Khaki Coat was still sitting upright, her black, wavy hair cascading over her shoulders. Her skin was fair and delicate, her figure slender. Her eyes were like a frozen river, silently flowing across her face, revealing a loneliness and coldness that no one could understand.

But, I could sense in the depths of my being that she was the same kind of person as me, because she seemed as lonely as I was, as misunderstood.

In an instant, my feelings for her increased a lot. Even though we hadn't exchanged a word, I longed to understand her true thoughts, to see what this almost perfect woman had gone through to make her so unhappy.

I didn't know when, but she put down her phone. A bowl of wide noodles appeared in front of her. She gave the waiter a faint smile, and naturally, I didn't miss this opportunity. Her smile was like the purest, most unadulterated gift in the world.

She picked up her chopsticks with her left hand, picked up a small piece of noodles, and took small bites. Then she took a tissue from her bag and wiped her cherry-red lips, then continued to repeat the previous actions. Despite her appearance, which made her look like a mature woman, she had such a huge contrast when eating.

If I had to choose between two beautiful scenes, one being the sunset glow like a long river, and the other being the snow-covered scenery of the northern country, I would choose the third option without hesitation. Because at this moment, she was like the most beautiful painting, so pure, so elegant.

Suddenly, she wiped her lips and stood up, walking towards the door.

I glanced at the time; half an hour had passed without me realizing it. It seemed that even a beautiful woman like her had her own shortcomings, which was that she ate too slowly.

Now that I'd come back to my senses after enjoying the beautiful scenery, my stomach was already caving in. Without a word, I picked up the bowl and gulped down a mouthful of soup that wasn't too cold yet. I finished the noodles in the bowl in four or five mouthfuls, the whole process taking less than 5 minutes. I hoped that the woman hadn't gone far, that she might be taking a walk nearby. I hoped to create a chance encounter.

I walked out of the noodle shop and looked at the park across the street; a park at night was always a good choice.

There wasn't the noise of a bar, nor the hustle and bustle of the street, only innocent children playing in groups, and people relaxing after a tiring day of work. In a super international city like Shanghai, having such a place was a blessing for those who lived here.

I was betting with an 80% chance that she would go to such a place, and leaving the remaining 20% to fate.

In less than ten minutes, I arrived at the park in front of me. Because it was early autumn, the leaves hadn't completely turned yellow and were still lush.

I wished it was autumn now. Imagine the ground covered with golden leaves, the "squeak squeak" sound of stepping on them, then entering the forest, which was covered in a layer of gold, the mottled shadows of the trees swaying in the autumn wind, like a moving poem.

In this beautiful poem, if I could meet a kindred spirit, it would truly be the perfect match.

Suddenly, a stunning figure caught my eye, and I knew I'd found the person I was looking for. Her bearing was still as overbearing as ever, just as ruthless, so much so that one look was enough to make me want to be at her feet.

"Ruan Qi?" Another familiar voice reached my ears.

I turned around and saw Yang Fei, who had tricked me twice.

"Oh, isn't this the beautiful Fei Fei? I was just thinking of looking for you."

"Get lost, you pervert. Are we even close? And don't call me Fei Fei," Yang Fei said, rolling her eyes, as if regretting telling me her name.

"Close? Of course, we're close! I even hugged you!" I said, making a gesture of hugging her. Yang Fei's eyes instantly turned red at my action, and then she stormed off in a huff.

Seeing this, I immediately fell into a dilemma. One was the Woman in the Khaki Coat, who made me feel like the spring breeze, and the other was the sweet-looking Yang Fei. Chasing either one wouldn't be a loss, but chasing either one would also be a loss.

Fortunately, reason overcame desire because I still needed to ask Yang Fei for help. I hoped she could let bygones be bygones and save Feng Feng and me.

Fortunately, Yang Fei wasn't walking too fast. I caught up to her without much effort and immediately ran in front of her, begging her to forgive me.

"Get lost, I don't talk to perverts."

Seeing this, I had no choice. I could only use the tactics I'd used to amuse Mi Xinxin to try and cheer up Yang Fei. I started by making a funny face at her. Seeing her crack a smile, I followed up with sticking out my tongue and a series of other silly expressions, which finally coaxed a laugh out of her.

"Feifei, little Feifei," I called out to her cheekily.

"Get lost, don't call me that."

"I will, I will, Feifei, little Feifei."

"Stop right there, I promise I won't break your legs!"

"Come on, Feifei, little Feifei, catch me, and I'll give you a mysterious gift pack."

"Stop, you bastard! Stop right there."

The fact that Yang Fei and I could resolve our previous misunderstandings so quickly, even to the point of joking around together, was astounding. And for me to suggest getting her a gift? We were both probably sick in the head. Just like that, we became friends, putting our conflicts aside.
