Chapter 96 - The Day He Didn't Come

I saw David still wearing his armor and holding his Grunginus Spear. It seemed that he had immediately flown rapidly using it right after hearing explosion from far away. What I could no longer understand was why he still showed that expression after witnessing all of this.

David began walking toward me and his spear quickly disappeared into his magical slot. That elite soldier immediately forced me to stand while both of my hands were still restrained. His strength was quite big as well, and I could not even imagine if David were the one doing this to me. David then stopped close in front of me while continuing to stare at my face. I immediately showed an annoyed expression again.

"My Great Lord, I have already captured this great traitor of the empire. I will throw him into prison now to await the heaviest punishment for this blasphemer, Milord..." the soldier bowed his head to David.

"Just say it now...!!! Say iiiittt...!!!" I shouted at him.

"You bastaaard...!!! How dare you say that in front of My Great Lord huuuhhhhhh...!!!" the soldier glared furiously at me.

David looked at me again for a moment again. "Take him there..." David said to the soldier.

"This servant shall carry out the command of My Great Lord..." the soldier forced me to walk out of the temple. I stared at David one more time furiously and he only stared back without any expression at all.

I saw the other soldiers still showing explosive emotions as if they wanted to immediately judge me on the spot. In the courtyard, a Graendall patrol car was already visible. Another soldier immediately put handcuffs on my hands, and I was roughly thrown inside it. Not long afterward, the car immediately drove away. I could not see outside because there were no windows here, only small holes.

Throughout the journey, I only curled up without feeling anger, fear, or sadness as if I had already accepted my fate like this. I could no longer comment on David's attitude. It seemed that my nightmare had been correct; he no longer considered me someone important by his side. All the free time I had spent with him every weekend felt utterly meaningless. Some time later, the car seemed to stop and the door opened. The soldier then shouted at me to get out immediately. Two guards immediately escorted me roughly into a building that I had known before. Yes... it was the same prison where I had awakened when I first arrived in Grivendal.

As I entered, I was immediately greeted by the mockery of many guards there. Some cursed at me very harshly, and some even threatened to kill me. I was taken farther inside until I arrived at a prison cell room that was cold, silent, and illuminated only by blue fire torches. The guard immediately shoved me roughly into the cell until I nearly fell.

After they locked the cell, I immediately got up and climbed onto the same bed as before, made stone and covered with something like a burlap sack that felt very rough on the skin. Even so, strangely, I did not feel very regretful about doing this. I lay down and stared at the ceiling.

I began recalling the sequence of impossible events that I had faced from Earth until now. Why was I able to continue surviving those things when I should have simply died? Was this related to my stubborn determination to change David's final fate? I simply surrendered myself this time and did not want to hope that David would suddenly save me. I then fell asleep after that.

The next day, I remained imprisoned here. I could only walk back and forth inside the cell. Not long afterward, I heard many footsteps coming this way. It seemed someone wanted to visit me, and I sat down again on that stone bed. Sure enough, those who came to visit me were Gruzhnil, Glynpatra, Sherubiel, and Mendicore. It seemed Grelmure did not come because perhaps he felt too devastated even to see me. Sherubiel immediately cried in Glynpatra's embrace, while the others stared at me with expressions that seemed unable to believe what I had done.

I finally tried to look toward them. Glynpatra immediately lowered her head, while Gruzhnil turned his face away from me. He was deeply ashamed because his secretary had now committed unimaginable act of blasphemy. Only Mendicore continued staring back at me, maybe because an artificial intelligence entity was not trained to feel deeper emotions. I turned my head forward again and let out a long sigh. Not a single word was spoken between me and them, and not long afterward, they left me alone once more.

The guard who approached me to give me food did so rather roughly. He placed a tray of food and a glass of water on the floor and then kicked it into the cell so that some of them spilled. Eventually, I ate the food when my stomach began to growl and refilled the glass with water from the faucet inside my cell.

That afternoon, while I was lying again on the stone bed, I suddenly heard the sound of many people walking this way. I thought it might be The Emperor or perhaps even David, who finally wanted to see me. However, when he arrived, I was shocked because I never expected who had come. It was none other than Commander Tiberos.

He asked the guard to open my cell door and entered alone. Tiberos immediately sat beside me on the edge of this bed. Once again, I smiled faintly toward him. He began speaking in a somewhat low tone.

"I already know about your actions yesterday. However, I will not ask you why you did it. I came here to tell you that they very much want to sentence you to death..."

I had already suspected that my actions would end that way.

"However, I will offer legal assistance to you. I can make them forgive what you have done. Even though after all this, what you destroyed is already being rebuilt again. So I feel I can persuade them. But with one specific condition, you must become part of Planet Grohn under me. They may forgive you through me, but that doesn't mean Planet Grivendal will accept you again as one of them. So, what is your decision? Decide right now!" Tiberos demanded.

I fell silent again for a moment to think about it. Suddenly, memories of my suspicion on Tiberos came back to me. I then looked at him with a resigned smile.

"Commander, I'm sorry, but it seems that this time I will decline your help. I fully understand the consequences of what I have done, and I'm the one who must bear them..." I replied.

Tiberos immediately moved his head closer to me with an expression that was restraining irritation.

"Listen to this! You are one of the most influential people here because even as an ordinary person, you had a special relationship with that God of War. Now I ask you, will He come to you? He has a thousand reasons to destroy this place to save you, yet once again He is now siding with Grivendal rather than with you! I have came so far to see you personally and offer help while everyone else avoids you! Think about your answer again, Johann!"

"Commander, my answer remains the same. I'm prepared to bear these consequences. And I also apologize because I'm finally going to say this to you. I overheard your argument with Commander Gruzhnil after the successful infiltration mission on your planet. I know that you dislike this empire that has existed for so long, don't you? You intend to sever ties with High Heaven and rebuild a new government according to your vision. It seems that you have always been using Commander Gruzhnil in an attempt to achieve this goal..."

"Was that also why you wanted to meet Mendicore and Sherubiel? I will say it now: yes, the two of them live here because they oppose High Heaven's policies. I was also suspicious of you because the people of the other planet seemed only to cheer for you while Commander Gruzhnil didn't. That is why I will refuse your help, Commander Tiberos." I continued.

Upon hearing my statement, Tiberos's eyes widened, and his breathing became heavier. Instead of accusing me, he immediately stood up and left my cell, followed by the guards. In my heart, I felt satisfied that I had finally spoken my mind regarding his suspicious behavior. How he would respond to me afterward was no longer my concern.

The next day, I woke up in shock because of a loud sound like a baton striking iron bars. Two guards were already inside the cell, immediately placing handcuffs on both my wrists and dragging me out of the cell once again. I didn't try to ask where I was being taken. The guards took me out of the prison and ordered me into the police car again. It seemed that yesterday I had made Tiberos very angry with my words, and he had immediately agreed to the death sentence for me.

When I arrived and got out, I felt that I was back in the capital city. In front of me stood a large and magnificent building. I wondered what this place was for. A sea of citizens crowded around the place and mocked me very harshly, demanding me to be executed. I was taken into the building among many staff members and soldiers. Shortly afterward, I arrived in a room where I immediately understood what I was about to undergo.

Inside were many people, including judges, witnesses, groups presenting legal charges, and security officers at the back.
