"We could never mistake our princess."
His weathered face softened with unmistakable affection.
"We're grateful you've returned safely."
Liora found herself unable to answer immediately.
She simply inclined her head awkwardly before Thessian pushed her onward.
After they had moved several paces away, she leaned slightly toward him.
"They've always greeted Father that way."
"They never greeted me."
"They're greeting the woman who rules this kingdom now," Thessian replied.
She looked at him with the same doubtful expression she had worn since waking.
"I still don't believe you."
"I know."
"You've been telling everyone to play along."
He laughed quietly.
"I wasn't aware thousands of people were capable of acting this well."
She pursed her lips.
"I still think you're lying."
He simply smiled without arguing further.
The palace gates stood open ahead of them.
Beyond them stretched the capital city.
Liora had expected chaos.
