Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Crisis Part II

While Carl kept thinking about a solution to protect the camp, he caught a glimpse of Lori walking toward him once again out of the corner of his eye.

"Carl, why did you not help me stop Rick? You know it is dangerous for him to go back to Atlanta." Said Lori, upset.

After Carl returned, she had secretly asked him to help dissuade Rick, but he simply ignored her, it is not like it would have worked anyway.

"Tell me, Carl, are you not afraid of losing him again?" Asked Lori, upon hearing such selfish words, Carl felt truly disappointed in her.

"Mom, I do not think there is anything wrong, he has been through a lot and survived, besides, he was the one who handcuffed Merle, therefore, he has the obligation to go." Said Carl giving his opinion.

Lori frowned but decided to let it go, Rick had already left anyway, instead, she fixed her gaze on Shane, who was butchering a cow in the distance.

"Carl, I want you to keep your distance from Shane, he is not a good person." Said Lori remembering how he had lied to her about Rick's death.

"Mom, I think what you should be worrying about right now is how to confess your relationship with Shane to dad instead of thinking about that." Said Carl feeling irritated.

Lori opened her eyes shocked and even terrified, although she did not know how he found out, she felt how her image as the perfect mother in Carl's eyes had completely collapsed.

She felt totally lost, the fear of losing Carl invaded her, now she did not even have the courage to keep lecturing him.

It must be admitted that although Lori has many problems, her love for Carl is quite real, if she had to choose between Carl and Rick, she would rather give up Rick than lose Carl.

"The truth is that I can understand you, I know you had no other choice but to act that way with Shane, I truly do." Said Carl trying to comfort her when he saw she was about to break down.

"But I am also worried, if you cannot handle your relationship with dad and Shane properly, they could become enemies because of you."

"If that happens, then I will hate you, mom." Said looking straight into her eyes.

"No.. Carl, I.." Lori tried to excuse herself, but it was obvious she had nothing good to say.

"I already talked to Shane, before dad came back, he has put aside your relationship with him and he will not bother you anymore."

"Now that dad has returned, I hope you do not keep having conflicts with him like before, the fact that our family is together is already a great blessing." Said Carl standing up to leave.

"Besides, Shane is my godfather, now he is also part of the family, you cannot interfere with that." Added Carl at the end, of course he is not going to give up a good subordinate so easily.

Carl walked away leaving Lori feeling lost, but he did not care, he still had to make some preparations for tonight, so he does not have time to worry about her.

But of course, Lori is still Lori, so after talking to Carl without results, she went to look for Shane to complain to him, which led to the later outcome where Ed was beaten into pulp.

...

At the same time, Rick and the others arrived at the department store where they had left Merle handcuffed.

Unfortunately, the only thing they found was the amputated hand he had left behind along with Dale's tools.

Corrected version:

But as if that were not enough, they soon ran into a group of thugs who were trying to take Rick's bag of guns, after taking one down with a crossbow bolt to the ass, they managed to recover the weapons.

They also captured one of the thugs, but unfortunately, Glenn was captured by the enemy, so now they have no choice but to go rescue him.

...

Back at the camp, time passed quickly and by night, everyone in the camp gathered to enjoy a good barbecue.

Carl took advantage of the fact that it was Amy's birthday to keep everyone awake until late, besides the fact that they were not lacking meat, of course.

Since he was the one who brought the cow to the camp, no one had objections, so the birthday party became reality without problems, to Amy's delight, who thanked him with a kiss on the cheek.

Carl was on top of Dale's RV after chatting and eating, when someone asked him, he simply replied that he was keeping watch.

Which is true, but it is also because he intends to participate in the battle that is coming, although he also has no intention of risking his life, so he decided to climb to a safe place to provide support from a distance.

At that moment, the group was laughing cheerfully wondering about Dale's watch, who always seemed to be mindful of time.

"Yes, I like what a father told his son when giving him his watch, that it passed from generation to generation.." Began Dale to recount.

"He told him, I give you the mausoleum of all hope and desire, I hope it serves you for everything you need just as it served me and my father before me."

"I give it to you, not so you remember time, but so you forget it from time to time and do not waste your life trying to conquer it." Finished Dale observing everyone's stunned expressions.

"Wonderful but.. Dale, you are so strange." Said Amy causing laughter in everyone.

"Haha, it is not me, it is William Faulkner." Replied Dale laughing.

The atmosphere was very lively, at that moment, Amy stood up, drawing everyone's attention.

"Where are you going?" Asked Andrea frowning.

"I am going to the bathroom, God, I was trying to be discreet!" Complained Amy pouting before walking toward the RV leaving everyone laughing once more.

Just when she was about to enter the RV, a metallic rattling sound echoed from outside the camp, like multiple cans being dragged.

Suddenly, a pained scream came from the direction where Ed had been tending the wounds caused by Shane.

"The walkers are coming, Jim, Shane, Dale, grab your weapons quickly, non combatants get into the RV now!" Shouted Carl snapping everyone out of their confusion.

Shane and Jim did not hesitate before grabbing their weapons, although they did not know what had caused the noise, but after hearing Carl's warning, they got an idea, even so, now is not the time to question further.

Soon, a staggering figure came out of the forest entering the camp, upon recognizing the figure as a walker, Shane raised his shotgun and pulled the trigger.

Bang!

With one shot, the walker fell to the ground truly lifeless, but dozens more appeared from the tree line, panic engulfed everyone in the camp.

"Do what Carl said, Lori, Carol, take the children to the RV!" Shouted Shane snapping the terrified Lori out of her confusion.

With that, everyone moved as if they had been kicked, some ran toward the RV, others froze and a few brave ones grabbed their weapons to face the walkers.

In just a few minutes, dozens of walkers had been taken down, but it seemed like only a drop in the ocean with endless waves continuing to arrive.

Fortunately, the non combatants had managed to take shelter inside the RV, now only Jim, Shane, Dale, Andrea, Jacqui and Morales remained to face the walkers.

Jim held a baseball bat smashing walker heads as if they were piñatas, but even so, he is still human.

After facing more than eight walkers, fatigue began to weigh on Jim's arms, sweat beading on his forehead, which inevitably caused him to make mistakes.

At that moment he was being besieged by two walkers at the same time when suddenly, another approached him from behind, catching him off guard, seeing that his end seemed to have arrived, Jim closed his eyes and crushed one of the walkers in front of him.

Bang! Bang!

The sound of bullets flying echoed beside him and after a moment without anything happening, Jim opened his eyes confused only to find the other two walkers on the ground, completely motionless.

The bullets kept buzzing and three more walkers fell to the ground with precise shots to the forehead, practically in the same spot, following the trajectory, Jim opened his eyes in shock.

The one who saved him was Carl, a ten year old boy wielding a tiny pistol suited to his age, for a moment, Jim even began to doubt his life, but quickly realized this is not the time to be distracted.

Jim nodded to Carl in gratitude and continued crushing heads as if there were no tomorrow with air going in and out of his lungs like a bellows, a tough guy without a doubt.

Carl kept one knee braced on the edge of the RV roof, body low, arm steady, his main objective was to provide support at crucial moments and kill as many walkers as possible.

Within a radius of ten meters, everything was simple, every time a walker got too close to someone, Carl lined up the sights, pulled the trigger and the walker's forehead burst open with almost absurd precision, then he switched targets without losing rhythm.

Shane looked at him in surprise when a bullet whizzed past his side, saving him by a hair, but decided to ignore it for now and focus on eliminating the remaining walkers.

Inside the RV, Carol held the children against her chest while Sophia sobbed silently, Lori kept calm after Carl told her he was fine through the roof window.

"Andrea, to your left, now." Shouted Carl, and Andrea turned with her heart in her throat, just in time to see a walker almost on top of her.

Carl fired before the dead man even touched her, the body fell like a sack and Andrea swallowed not understanding how the hell a child had saved her.

In a short time, Carl had saved them several times, easing everyone's burden, which allowed them to eliminate the walkers with more confidence.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

At that moment, several shots sounded from the entrance of the camp, it was Rick and the others who had arrived with half the weapons, the rest were traded to rescue Glenn at the nursing home.

Rick entered first with his shotgun raised, shooting walkers in his path and alternating with his revolver from time to time, he ran toward Shane and the others who were gathered near the RV.

The scene was a hell of screams, gunfire, smoke, flesh snapping and terror, walkers slipped through gaps between the tents, pushing like it was a sale day.

The battle grew more intense over time and lasted until dawn, fortunately with Carl covering everyone's backs, no one died, no one except Ed of course.

In truth, the guy could have survived if he were not a coward, but he was so scared that he could not even react, if it had been his wife and daughter, he surely would have beaten them into pulp.

"You deserved it." Murmured Carl mentally.

At that moment, everyone was gathered in the center of the camp around Ed, who had been tied up after turning into a walker.

The guy writhed constantly with abrupt spasms and his eyes completely empty, every time he saw movement he tried to lunge like a rabid dog.

Carol stood a few meters away, she was not crying, she simply watched with a cold expression, Shane walked back and forth with the shotgun over his shoulder, ready to blow his head off at any moment while Andrea looked at Ed with disgust.

"It has to be done now." Said Shane, finger on the trigger.

"No, wait." Said Carl, looking at Carol, understanding without anyone having to explain it.

Carol said nothing, but her chest rose and fell slowly, her eyes did not move from Ed, Sophia hugged her tighter and Carol pressed her lips, as if afraid that if she opened them something would come out that she could not stop.

"No, Carol, you do not have to.." Said Rick surprised by his son's attitude.

"No, I have to." Said Carol with a deep breath taking a decision.

Slowly she approached the zombified Ed, she crouched down and picked up a pickaxe from the ground, held her breath and with a swift movement, smashed it against the head of her abusive husband splattering blood everywhere.

But Carol did not stop even after Ed had died, she raised the pickaxe high and smashed it once more, then again and again, a scene so horrifying that some weak people began to vomit.

Only after Ed's head was truly destroyed did Carol stop, although she seemed sad, something changed inside Lotso, I mean Carol.

|[ Congratulations host for obtaining 100 points, do you wish to upgrade Precise Shot to Intermediate Level? ]|

The system's question did not take me by surprise, I thought about it for a moment before nodding.

Instantly, I felt how my vision underwent a qualitative change and even control over my body improved, it seems it is not only aimbot, my body is also enhanced to adapt to my abilities.

Previously I had not noticed it because it was only ten meters, my original vision was enough to handle that distance without problems.

"Great." Whispered Carl feeling the changes in his body with a simple intermediate level upgrade.
