During his few days at Bulma's house, Qin Yan met Bulma's older sister, Tights.
Tights was about ten years older than Qin Yan and a full head taller. She had pale yellow hair, large round eyes with pitch-black pupils, and a fondness for wearing bib overalls. She was rarely seen during the day because she was always out traveling.
Upon hearing that Qin Yan and his companion came from outer space, her eyes sparkled with intense curiosity. For several days, as soon as she returned from her errands, she would seek them out and ask Qin Yan to tell her about the interesting things in the universe.
Qin Yan shared some of their experiences, and Tights listened with rapt attention. Her interest was piqued to the point of obsession, filling her with an endless longing for adventure and cosmic exploration.
From the memories of his past life, Qin Yan knew that Tights was the female lead in Akira Toriyama's manga, Jaco the Galactic Patrolman. That manga served as a prequel to Dragon Ball. In that story, the girl Jaco saved was none other than Tights, the elder sister of Dragon Ball's heroine, Bulma.
Jaco's original mission to Earth was to eliminate the evil Saiyan invaderGoku as a child.
However, because Jaco accidentally splashed Tights while relieving himself, she had knocked him off a cliff. As a result, he failed to notice Goku's spaceship crashing, which allowed Goku to bypass the "Galactic Patrol."
Later, in the plot of Dragon Ball Super, both Jaco and Tights made appearances as well.
In the original work, Tights had abandoned a life of privilege to become a science fiction writer, working various jobs to experience life. After becoming friends with Jaco, she was able to travel to various planets on spaceships to gather material, eventually becoming a popular sci-fi adventure novelistthough her books based on Jaco himself weren't particularly well-received.
So, after hearing that Qin Yan was from space, Tights sought them out every day for stories. She even decided to write a book using Qin Yan and Liya as prototypes.
Having stayed here for so long, Qin Yan felt it was time to see how Goku was doing.
That day, Qin Yan bid farewell to Bulma and the others. After carefully sensing the Ki he had left on Goku, he immediately determined the path to find him.
Qin Yan estimated that the distance from West City to where Goku was located was about 3,000 kilometers.
It wasn't very far. Flying normally would take less than an hour, and Instant Transmission would make it a matter of a single moment.
However, Qin Yan didn't plan on using Instant Transmission. Instead, he borrowed an advanced, high-horsepower motorcycle from Dr. Briefs. He wanted to experience a bit of the local lifestyle.
Vroom, vroom, vroom!
The motorcycle sped along the dry, smooth dirt paths of the countryside, kicking up a trail of yellow dust behind it like a long serpent. Fortunately, the motorcycle was equipped with a windshield, so the dust didn't hit him directly in the face, though both he and Liya still ended up looking quite travel-worn.
Qin Yan and Liya traveled and sight-saw simultaneously. A few days later, they entered a vast, boundless plain.
In such a wilderness, where few people ventured, it was easy for bandits and thieves to hide. These people specialized in robbery, preying on passing merchants. Because the location was remote, law enforcement was practically non-existent.
Qin Yan carried Liya on the motorcycle, speeding along like a bolt of lightning. They encountered several waves of bandits attempting to block the road, but at first, Qin Yan ignored them, simply focusing on driving fast. He ended up having a "Fast and Furious" style chase with the bandits. Eventually, he grew annoyed and decided to teach them a lesson, ending up robbing them instead.
He scoffed. How could these ordinary mortals possibly be his match?
As they drew closer to Goku's position, mountains and rivers began to appear, and the vegetation and forests grew denser.
The roads became more rugged and difficult to navigate, and the surrounding environment grew more primitive. Surrounded by mountains, the winding roads seemed endless. The area became quieter and more serene. Qin Yan felt a slight chill; the temperature in the mountains was a bit lower than outside.
The scenery was beautiful, the air was sweet and crisp, and it carried the refreshing fragrance of nature.
They were very close to Goku's location now. From the environment, Qin Yan guessed that this should be the territory of Mount Paozu.
In the original Dragon Ball, Mount Paozu was the starting point of everything. It was a paradise far from the city, picturesque and rich in resources, which later supported Goku's entire family of big eaters.
Driving along the winding path, Qin Yan eventually saw a stone-and-tile house at the end of the road. It looked somewhat like a temple with a pointed roof. This familiar building made Qin Yan's eyes light up.
They had finally arrived. This was the home of Grandpa Gohan, Goku's grandfather.
"It's right there," Qin Yan murmured.
"Is Kakarot really here, Brother Qin Yan?" Liya asked curiously.
"That's right. I can sense his Ki. He's inside that house."
Qin Yan pointed to the small house on the hillside and spoke slowly.
"Oh, I see!" Liya responded cutely.
Qin Yan then drove up the hillside. In front of the house, he saw a kind-looking old man wearing an orange coat. He had a flushed face and a handlebar mustache, and he was currently busy chopping firewood.
Hearing the sound of the motorcycle, the kind old man stopped what he was doing. When he looked toward Qin Yan and Liya, a sharp glint flickered in his eyes.
Qin Yan smirked. We finally meet, Grandpa Gohan!
The old man was indeed Grandpa Gohan. He wore a black round hat and an orange coat over his black martial arts uniform.
In the original work, he was the senior disciple of the "God of Martial Arts," Master Roshi. Like Master Roshi, he had a bit of a perverted streak in his youth. He had trained under Master Roshi alongside his fellow disciple, Ox-King, performing tasks like delivering milka signature part of the Turtle School training that Goku would eventually undergo as well.
Grandpa Gohan's skills were exceptional. Before the 21st World Martial Arts Tournament, he was the only person who had ever forced Master Roshi to use the Lightning Flash Surprise (Bankoku Bikkuri Sho).
Rumor had it that Grandpa Gohan was a master of many martial arts styles and possessed unique secret techniques. More importantly, he was Goku's first teacher and a kind, amiable old man.
By chance, he had found Kakarot in the mountains shortly after the boy arrived on Earth in a space pod. He adopted him and gave him the name Son Goku.
In the beginning, Goku was naturally wild and unruly, but Grandpa Gohan never gave up on him. A later accident caused Goku to suffer a head injury, after which he became very gentle. This played a major role in Goku eventually becoming a Super Saiyan, as a peaceful heart allows a Saiyan's S-Cells to grow rapidly.
Grandpa Gohan had trained Goku strictly since childhood, giving him a solid foundation in martial arts. He also gave Goku his treasures: the Power Pole and the Four-Star Dragon Ball.
Grandpa Gohan had passed away before the start of the original series. One night, while Goku was relieving himself outside, he accidentally looked at the full moon and transformed into a Great Ape (Oozaru). Grandpa Gohan was unfortunately stepped on and killed by the transformed Goku.
Later, during Goku's adventures, they would meet again at Fortuneteller Baba's arena, where Gohan appeared as her fifth fighter wearing a mask.
Qin Yan observed him and estimated his power level to be between 120 and 150.
Screech!
Qin Yan parked the bike not far from Grandpa Gohan and walked up to him in a few steps.
"Hello, elder!" Qin Yan greeted him politely.
"Hello, young children. Where have you come from, and why have you come so deep into these remote mountains?"
Grandpa Gohan's gaze fell upon Qin Yan and Liya. His eyes were filled with doubt, confusion, and tension. He was nervous because he noticed that Qin Yan and Liya's physical features and appearance were very similar to the child he had picked up a few days ago. Could they be here for him? he thought to himself.
Moreover, as a martial artist, Gohan felt an extraordinary power emanating from the two of them.
"My name is Qin Yan, and she is Liya. We come from a distant city. We're here to see one of our compatriots. He should be in the house behind you, right?" Qin Yan said straightforwardly.
"So that's how it is!"
Upon hearing Qin Yan's words, Grandpa Gohan showed a look of realization, just as he had suspected.
"There is indeed a child in the house behind me who looks like you, but I didn't know if he was your compatriot. Come with me!"
Grandpa Gohan saw that both Qin Yan and Liya looked kind. His intuition told him they weren't evil people, so he didn't make things difficult for them and led them directly toward the house.
Creak!
Grandpa Gohan pushed open the door and walked in.
Qin Yan and Liya shared a look and followed closely behind.
The inside of the house was clean and tidy, furnished with just a table and a bed.
Qin Yan looked toward the bed. Lying there was a child with his head wrapped in bandages. It was Kakarot, also known as Goku, who had come from Planet Vegeta in a spaceship.
"Kakarot!"
Seeing the unconscious Goku on the bed, Liya cried out. She also recognized him as Goku.
"Kakarot?" Grandpa Gohan asked, full of confusion.
"That is indeed our compatriot. Kakarot is his name, given to him by his parents. For various reasons, he was abandoned here," Qin Yan explained with a slight smile.
Hearing this, Grandpa Gohan's expression turned peaceful. He said in an aged voice, "I see! I found this child in a valley a while ago. Since no one claimed him and there are many wild beasts in the mountains, I brought him back for his safety."
"Thank you very much for extending a helping hand to this child," Qin Yan said sincerely to Grandpa Gohan while looking at Goku on the bed.
"It was nothing! It's only right. Saving a life is better than building a seven-story pagoda. Anyone who found him would have done the same," Gohan said kindly, his old eyes shimmering with honesty and goodness. He was an amiable elder and a master of high martial virtue, possessing a refined demeanor that commanded deep respect.
"What happened to him?" Liya asked in confusion, looking at the unconscious Goku and the bandages on his head.
