There is a silence that follows war.

But the silence that followed normalization was different.

Years had softened the sharp edges of memory. The basin was no longer a site of transformation. It was an institution among institutions. Efficient. Boring. Necessary.

The world no longer held its breath.

And neither did I.

From the distant ridge where I had settled, the trade routes looked unchanged. Caravans moved. Couriers crossed valleys. Agreements were drafted. Disputes arose and resolved.

No dramatic speeches.

No resistance gatherings.

Just civilization operating under a new baseline.

Transparency had become architecture.

And architecture does not ask for applause.

It asks for upkeep.
