When No One Remembered It Was Once Radical

The first time I heard it said casually, I almost missed it.

"Of course it's documented."

Not defensive.

Not proud.

Just assumed.

The phrase passed between two young clerks reviewing a cross regional trade adjustment. There was no reverence in their tone. No awareness of history. No sense that what they were doing had once required defiance.

Documentation was simply expected.

Transparency was default.

Cassian heard it too.

"They don't see it as extraordinary," he said later that evening.

Lucien's lips curved slightly. "That was the goal."

Yes.

And yet something inside me shifted.

Revolutions that survive long enough lose their drama.

They become background.

The basin no longer gathered for major compliance reviews. They skimmed them. Compared summaries. Flagged anomalies. No tension.

Even disputes felt procedural rather than existential.

The exchange was infrastructure.

Invisible until needed.
