The accusation made several people in the ballroom gasp.
Cyndi continued despite the pressure around her throat.
Her breathing had become increasingly difficult, but the anger burning in her chest seemed to give her enough strength to keep speaking.
"You were already betraying her before I ever became your mistress. You were already humiliating her before I ever plotted against her."
Her eyes remained fixed on Alex's furious face, refusing to look away despite the threat in his eyes. "You want to blame me now because Sonia is dead?"
She laughed again, although the sound came out strained and painfully. "Tell me, Alex. During all those years you lived with her, when did you ever truly care about Sonia?"
Alex's expression hardened, but Cyndi did not give him the opportunity to respond. "When was the last time you genuinely asked whether she had eaten?"
"When was the last time you noticed that she was hurting?"
"When did you comfort her when she was lonely?"
