Her voice echoed throughout the hall, sending chills down Cyndi's spine and making her entire body tremble uncontrollably.
"Grandma..." she whispered. Their relationship had never been particularly warm.
But at that moment, Cyndi could not afford to let pride stand in the way.
If there was even the slightest chance of saving her marriage and, more importantly, saving whatever self esteem she had left, she had no choice but to cling to it.
"You don't deserve to call me Grandma." Lady Hort's voice cracked through the hall like a whip, causing the already tense atmosphere to become even heavier.
"You are not worthy of that privilege," she rasped, her eyes burning with fury.
The words struck Cyndi harder than she expected. A bitter smile curled her lips.
She wasn't in any least surprised.
She had called her Grandma countless times, but the old woman had never truly accepted the title from her.
But seeing the sheer rage in Lady Hort's eyes, Cyndi's face turned deathly pale.
