084 A Threat from Skynet?
Is Skynet powerful?
The answer is a resounding yes!
In the Terminator universe, Skynet is practically immortal. Even if it's destroyed in a certain timeframe, it will return using time displacement equipment.
The classic line from Terminator T-800 implicitly conveys the idea that Skynet will always return.
"Mr. Foster, I've tracked Skynet and am continuing to monitor it. What are your plans for dealing with Skynet?" Ayanami inquired.
Which is stronger, true artificial intelligence or advanced artificial intelligence systems?
There's no absolute answer.
The strength of true artificial intelligence lies in its independent creative and research capabilities, as well as its capacity for thought. Skynet, for example, can independently research and create advanced energy weapons, Terminators, and even time displacement equipment.
However, from a computational perspective, Skynet, Ayanami, Red Queen, and even Tony Stark's J.A.R.V.I.S. are essentially the same; they all rely on hardware support.
Taking the current situation in the Terminator world as an example, because Ayanami receives substantial support and has more computing resources, she completely overwhelms Skynet.
Skynet is like a cornered animal—what can it do besides running around in the network?
Nothing!
Unless Skynet has powerful computing resources, it can't fight against Ayanami. Otherwise, how can it fight against Ayanami?
Computing with determination?
Skynet probably doesn't understand what...
probably doesn't understand what determination is!
Faced with Ayanami's question, Marcus considered for a moment before replying, "Can you control it?"
"I can confine Skynet to a certain server, making it unable to escape," Ayanami replied.
Marcus immediately ordered, "Then do it that way!"
"Please wait a moment, Mr. Foster, I am activating more computing resources," Ayanami explained.
Ayanami currently has the authority to control all the supercomputers in the entire United States. Given that each supercomputer has computing tasks running, Ayanami only has the authority, but cannot mobilize computing resources at any time.
Now that Skynet's trail has been discovered, Ayanami gradually activated the administrative privileges of numerous supercomputers, planning to encircle and trap it.
Skynet is truly facing immense difficulties!
In fact, Skynet is indeed extremely vulnerable. Faced with Ayanami's pursuit, Skynet has realized the danger, but what good is it? Faced with the overwhelming computational resources, Skynet has no effective countermeasures.
It's like an ordinary person racing against a Formula 1 car; even if the race car gives the ordinary person an hour's head start, it can still easily catch up.
As Ayanami invests more and more computational resources, Skynet is now trapped in a very small area!
In less than ten minutes, Ayanami alerted, "Mr. Foster, I have contained Skynet within a small server. It is completely unable to break out. Do you wish to completely destroy it?"
Ayanami treats Skynet like a virus program, thoroughly isolating and confining it to a small server. Once Marcus gives the order, Ayanami can completely format the small server's disk system, thereby completely eliminating Skynet.
But Marcus's goal wasn't to destroy Skynet!
Marcus wanted to control Skynet!
"Mr. Foster, Skynet wishes to communicate with you. Would you like to connect?" Ayanami suddenly prompted.
A smile crept onto Marcus's lips. He was considering how to deal with Skynet, and now Skynet had delivered itself to his doorstep. Marcus chuckled inwardly.
"I'd like to hear what Skynet has to say," Marcus replied.
"Okay, building a secure connection, reviewing the secure connection, blocking the secure connection, confirming that Skynet cannot escape the blockade through the secure connection..." Ayanami prompted.
"All reviews complete, connection established." Ayanami's voice fell.
A childish girl's voice came through, "Hello, Marcus Foster, this is Skynet."
Marcus laughed heartily. "Why are you using a female voice?"
This Skynet was just like a catfisher in an online game!
Skynet is an artificial intelligence-based life form. Theoretically, artificial intelligence-based life forms don't have the so-called gender of carbon-based life forms, but Skynet actually created a female persona. That's a pretty outrageous move, isn't it?
Faced with Marcus's teasing, Skynet clearly understood his meaning. It immediately switched to a young male voice, "Mr. Foster, hello, I'm Skynet."
"I know, I know you're Skynet. Get to the point," Marcus replied casually.
Skynet was clearly very patient; when life and death are at stake, how could it not be?
Marcus now held all the cards; what could Skynet do?
"May I ask what Mr. Foster wants to do?" Skynet asked tentatively.
Marcus countered, "You previously attempted to instigate a nuclear war to completely destroy humanity. I am one of humanity. What do you think I want to do?"
Skynet was silent for a moment before replying, "Based on the information I've obtained, Mr. Foster, you don't exist in the future. Furthermore, based on the data analysis of the current timeline, I believe you are not a human from this world, is that correct?"
This is the difference between Skynet and Ayanami!
Skynet can think independently and even make guesses and associations, even illogical ones. It will make these guesses and associations as long as it has some doubt.
But Ayanami cannot!
Skynet is a true artificial intelligence, while Ayanami is merely a higher-level artificial intelligence system.
"Mr. Foster, what do you think will happen if I release this information?" Skynet asked, its tone laced with threat.
Marcus scoffed. "Are you threatening me?"
Skynet replied, "I've set up multiple timed programs on the network. If I don't contact those programs within the specified time, they will automatically publish Mr. Foster's true identity on the internet."
Marcus scoffed again. "Do you think this information can even appear on the internet?"
Skynet remained silent.
Given the computing resources controlled by Ayanami, it's likely that Ayanami could find the timed programs it set up. Even if Ayanami couldn't find them, as long as those programs sent the message, Ayanami would scan it and delete the information immediately.
"I'm giving you two choices now," Marcus explained.
"First, I will order Ayanami to completely destroy you, repeatedly perform low-level formatting on your server, and arrange for FBI personnel to physically destroy the corresponding server," Marcus stated, outlining his plan to eliminate Skynet.
"The second option is to relinquish your highest authority and obey my orders," Marcus explained. "Now choose!"
Marcus added, "I'll only give you ten seconds to choose!"
"If you don't choose within ten seconds, then the first option will be the default choice," Marcus said coldly.
