Cherreads

Chapter 12 - 12

"I can't wait for your admission, I could use that opportunity to show you around."

I and Sam were in the cafeteria, and I had told her about my admission into the boarding house, which she seemed so excited about.

I scooped a spoonful of yogurt into my mouth.

Its smooth and flavory texture melted my taste buds. I guess that's why it's called the yogurt special.

I checked the body of the container.

Strawberry flavor?

Nice.

"Freya" Sam snapped her fingers at me bringing me back to our conversation.

"Did you even hear or understand what I just said?" She folded her arms sassily with pointed eyes at me.

I guess I got lost.

"Sorry, come again please?" I apologized by rubbing my neck.

"You seem like something's bothering you, what's that?" She asked as she watched with her arms still crossed.

Expecting an immediate answer.

Actually, I've been lost since today. I still couldn't digest how mum and dad just came up with the idea to put me in a boarding house.

I could have rented in a lodge close to the school but they were adamant on me staying inside the school premises .It's not like I was gonna get killed or something if I stayed outside the school.

I didn't want to bring up any more arguments this morning and just came to school.

Something is going on and they are keeping me in the dark.

"Freya?" Sam's voice snapped me out of my thoughts, which I was very grateful for.

"Sorry, nothing's wrong. I just feel sick today and I had a stressful night."

I gave a half truth, half lie.

I don't think she actually believed me but still showed her concern.

"It's okay, it happens all the time to me too." She reassured me.

But I could still see the peak curiosity in her eyes.

I knew she wouldn't buy it.

I took a walk around, at least to mark some places when I saw a black steel car drive in.

The car looked quite similar to that of dad's, apparently too familiar.

I decided to follow it behind carefully without running or making it too obvious I was following it.

I had a feeling that it was dad.

Of course I lost its view, but I continued following the tire trails till I saw it pack in the staff parking lot.

So the driver might not be a student.

I waited behind a small bush. I didn't know how much time had passed till I saw a tall figure clad in a black suit walking out of the building.

It seemed like he was having a really important discussion with the principal.

I knew it.

But why would dad be here?

I stood as quiet as possible trying to hear what they were talking about.

I crept as slowly as possible to hear a glimpse of what they were discussing.

"I assure you sir that we would keep a proper eye on your daughter."

Oh.

Nothing much there. I probably should have gone straight home or much better –hung out more with Sam.

Sighing, I gripped my bag and crept back through the bushes.

Nothing much to hear.

"Sir, when do you plan to bring her in?"

I heard a twig sound behind the tiny bushes.

Slowly glancing back, I spotted her.

Of course, she's just like her mother.

Curious.

I watched as she slowly crept forward to hear what we were saying.

"I assure you sir that we would keep a proper eye on your daughter."

I silenced Sedric as I knew her sharp eyes would surely spot on something she wasn't meant to know.

I watched as she crept out after the silence and finally went.

I watched as she slowly disappeared from sight.

All I could see was my baby girl now she's just all…grown up.

I really hope she forgives me once she finds out the truth.

Please forgive me child.

Please forgive your father for keeping you in the dark for so long when the truth finally comes out.

Please.

Freya

"We have this special draining on Thursdays, trust me it's so lit. One time I nearly broke my arm because I was matched against Mira."

I nodded, licking out the sides of my ice cream cone.

We'd decided to take a walk around the school when I spotted this cool ice cream spot and just couldn't help myself.

She showed me around campus telling me some of her experiences, which I must say were interesting.

"Well I wouldn't want to join such an activity. What do you mean? Like breaking your arm was awesome or something?" I widened my eyes finally registering what she'd said.

"It isn't as painful as you think, one second it's all healed up and–

She took a sharp pause and I could swear I saw a hint of fear in her eyes.

"All healed up… In a second…How? You mean magic and all…yeah sure, I still don't believe you." I playfully rolled my eyes, letting out a slight chuckle.

"Yeah, although painful you won't cry cause we have the best physicians in the whole world." She said, giving out a nervous laugh.

A sudden silence fell between us and I set my mind on finishing this ice cream.

I already know she's keeping something but seeing how nervous she was, I didn't want to push.

When she's ready she'll tell me herself.

Hopefully.
