Chapter 234 I Am the Savior!?
"The prophecy foretells that Vanaheim will face a terrifying catastrophe!"
Finney's face showed a hint of surprise, not understanding why Njord suddenly said this, but he didn't interrupt, instead listening to Njord's slow explanation.
"I tried many methods, but none could change the prophecy. Until decades ago, I finally managed to obtain a new prophecy!" Njord's deep blue eyes suddenly fixed on Finney, saying, "The new prophecy says that a savior can change this catastrophe!"
Seeing Njord's gaze, Finney suddenly shuddered, asking with a wry smile, "You don't actually think that savior is me, do you?"
"I didn't know who it was at first, but after meeting you, I felt it was you!"
Njord nodded, looking at Finney and suddenly said, "You are truly special, a little mage from Midgard. I can't see through you, and the prophecy doesn't work on you. You must be the savior!"
Finney was somewhat speechless. Regarding the prophecy's ineffectiveness, he guessed it was due to the system; even the Time Stone could block it, so preventing the prophecy seemed insignificant.
"I think you might have misunderstood something. I'm leaving soon. The prophecy didn't work because of my special constitution, so I'm not the savior you're talking about!"
Finney shook his head and said. He hadn't even completely saved his own Earth yet, and he was already going to be someone else's savior.
Njord seemed very confident in the prophecy, shaking his head and saying, "Prophecies can't be wrong!"
"Then what do you want?"
Finney frowned, becoming somewhat wary.
Seeing Finney's expression, Njord sighed, "Don't worry, I won't force you to stay. I just hope you can save Vanaheim!"
"But I told you, I'm not that savior!"
Finney refused again in a deep voice.
"Whether you are or not, time will tell." Njord looked at Finney and continued slowly, "I'm willing to exchange a treasure for a promise from you. If you are the savior of prophecy, please save Vanaheim, and you will be richly rewarded!"
Finney frowned and remained silent. Although he still didn't believe he was that savior, he didn't dare to completely deny it.
Moreover, he didn't dare to agree to this promise lightly. The person in front of him was a 'god' who had lived for countless years. Who knew if he had any kind of contract or spell?
"I'm sorry, I think I should leave."
Finney shook his head. He felt he couldn't stay in Vanaheim any longer. Although it was a pity that he couldn't study those spells, if he stayed, who knew what unexpected things might happen.
"Sigh!"
Seeing Finney's refusal, Njord sighed deeply, his face looking even older, and he seemed quite devastated, which made Finney suddenly feel a little sorry for him.
"What exactly is your prophecy?"
The words left his mouth, and Finney immediately regretted them. This old man was a god; did he need his mercy?
Unfortunately, Finney didn't have the Time Stone to turn back time and take back his words.
"At dawn, in a peaceful realm, disaster strikes suddenly, black dust flies, souls wander, and a lost land is nowhere to be found!" Njord muttered.
Finney frowned, pondering carefully, and suddenly felt something was off about the sentence, especially one part that particularly bothered him. He couldn't help but ask, "What does 'black dust flies' mean?"
"A prophecy can be interpreted in many ways!"
Njord shook his head and replied, "But until it comes true, no one can accurately interpret the prophecy!"
Finney pondered this for a long time, then, still feeling the word "black dust" was problematic, he asked again, "How did you obtain this prophecy?"
"It's a tradition of every king of Vanaheim!" Njord said, "Using their last breath to make a prophecy about the future of the nation!"
Finney looked at the aged Njord and felt a slight pang of emotion.
Finney didn't care how long Njord could live; what mattered was whether the prophecy was what he imagined. If it was, then this savior might truly be him.
According to the original storyline, after Thanos snapped his fingers with the Infinity Gauntlet, those chosen turned into black powder and disappeared.
Therefore, Finney couldn't help but wonder if Njord's prophecy foreshadowed Thanos's snap.
Thanos's dream was to eliminate the population and resource problems of the entire universe, including Vanaheim.
Regardless of how they later traveled back to other timelines to retrieve the Infinity Stones and restore the world in the original storyline, initially, the Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Doctor Strange all failed to prevent the snap.
In the original storyline, no one stopped Thanos, but now the Marvel universe has someone who shouldn't exist—someone whose future is unpredictable.
As long as Finney isn't acting irrationally, he'll definitely try to stop Thanos. If he succeeds, then obviously no one else will turn to dust, so calling him a savior isn't entirely unreasonable.
But what troubles Finney is his fear that the prophecy isn't about Thanos, although based on the original storyline, Vanaheim didn't seem to exhibit any unusual behavior towards the end.
But what if it is?
Finney hesitated. While refusing was the safest option, if the prophecy really did refer to Thanos's snap, he felt he'd lost out.
"What treasure do you intend to use to exchange for this promise?"
After much deliberation, Finney gritted his teeth and decided to take a gamble. His strength was steadily increasing; even without Thanos's snap, he could handle it in the future.
Hearing Finney's words, Njord gave him a deep look. Finney was gambling, and so was he. From the moment he saw Finney, he instinctively tried to use his 'curse' to foresee whether Finney's arrival would be good or bad.
But to his surprise, the infallible 'curse' failed him.
Back home, he tested it again, confirming that the problem wasn't with the curse, but with Finney himself. That's why he believed Finney was the prophesied savior.
If he was wrong, he would pay the price: besides losing a treasure, he would plunge Vanaheim into disaster.
"The Pearl of the Ocean!"
Njord took out a beautifully crafted small sphere emitting a pale blue light and said, "It can control a certain amount of water and is imbued with permanent 'light,' 'restoration,' and 'healing' spells. Wearing it can relieve fatigue and heal injuries."
Finney looked at the bead in Njord's hand, feeling slightly disappointed. Aside from the added water control and lighting, its function seemed no different from the 'Violet Chicken Wrap.'
However, considering this was only in exchange for a promise, and he hadn't yet saved Vanaheim, it was already quite good that the other party could offer something of this caliber.
