The sound of maniacal laughter echoed all around me, the chill in the air finally dispersing. I looked around, finding the shadows creeping towards me.
They grew black tentacles that started to crawl towards me. Even the walls moved, forming a cage around me.
I looked at the door, my legs suddenly too heavy to take a step.
But I had to get to safety.
I pushed myself forward, each step heavier than the last. I breathed out in relief when my hand finally reached the handle of the door.
Twisting it, I pulled the door open with all my strength and shut it tight before me. I was barely able to keep myself upright.
This had been a warning no doubt.
Now, I had to figure out a way to thwart their plans and return safely with Ms. Coraline. I wasn't sure I could tell her about the ghost.
It would mean endangering her life as well. Because the ghost of Mary could eavesdrop on us no doubt.
