The sound of the shower suddenly stopped, and both Lara Nash and Ronan Joyce heard what their daughter had just said. They wanted to find a hole to crawl into and hide.
'What was she talking about, him giving me a bath? What would his mom think if she heard that?'
Ronan Joyce grabbed a bath towel to wrap around her, then took another towel and began drying her short, damp hair as he whispered, "Don't make a sound. Let's just pretend we didn't hear anything. It's better if we just act like we don't know."
Then they heard Mrs. Joyce come in and say to Cheryl Nash, "This is the chicken soup Grandma heated up for your mommy. Make sure she drinks all of it later, okay?"
"Okay, okay! Don't you worry, Grandma. I promise I'll complete the mission."
Cheryl Nash nodded emphatically.
"Such a good girl!"
