"How could he have fainted?"
Her heart trembled when she heard what Cheryl Nash said. But Cheryl was sobbing too hard to explain what had happened, so Lara could only tell the driver to change course and head for the hospital.
Mason Thorne pretended not to see her hands clenched tightly in nervousness and asked lightly, "What's wrong?"
"Cheryl said Ronan Joyce suddenly fainted..."
She ran a hand through her hair in frustration and turned to look out the window.
'What happened to him? Why would he suddenly faint? Is he sick? Or something else?'
Her heart was a tangled mess. She could no longer see or hear what Mason Thorne was saying or doing beside her.
When she reached the hospital and found him and Cheryl, he was lying there, his face pale. The doctor had just finished examining him. Seeing his haggard appearance, she thought he had some serious illness and quickly grabbed the doctor to ask, "Doctor, what's wrong with him?"
