Laura Lowell was in so much pain she broke out in a cold sweat. It felt like one of her bones had broken.
Aiden Shaw returned after his call. He sat down beside Laura Lowell and pulled her into his arms. "Someone will be here to pick us up soon."
"But... it's all mountain roads. A car can't make it up here."
"Don't talk. It must hurt like hell, right?"
Aiden Shaw's heart ached, too.
'He'd only wanted to surprise her and make her happy, but instead, she'd gotten hurt.'
'He should have stayed by her side. If he hadn't left her for even a moment, this never would have happened.'
Laura Lowell looked up, a faint smile on her slightly pale face. "It really doesn't hurt that much. You're just overreacting."
Aiden Shaw said nothing more. He knew she was just trying to keep him from worrying.
Less than twenty minutes after Aiden Shaw made his call, a helicopter slowly descended over the mountaintop.
