Mrs. Sterling was on the verge of death, and Timothy Sterling was in a panic. Completely at a loss, he had no idea what to do. He could only watch helplessly as the doctors and paramedics carried Mrs. Sterling's stretcher out of the ambulance.
At the hospital entrance, a doctor was still trying to persuade the medical protestors and the family. 'Why haven't the police arrived yet?' he wondered anxiously.
However, less than five minutes had passed since he had called the police. Even at their fastest, it would take the police at least ten minutes from receiving the call to dispatching officers and arriving on scene.
"I'm begging you, please stop this. The hospital board will definitely hold another meeting to negotiate your case. Please, move aside. Can you give someone else a chance to live?" At this point, the doctor didn't know what else to say. He was just an attending physician on duty. He had no authority to resolve this kind of medical dispute, much less make any promises.
