About ten meters from home, she smelled an alluring aroma of meat.
Cecilia Adler quickened her pace and called out as she walked in the door, "Grandma, I'm back."
"Perfect timing for some meat." Her grandmother dished out two rabbit hind legs. "Here you go."
Cecilia asked, "Aren't you having any?"
"I prefer the rabbit heads. Go on, eat up. There's more when you're done." Grandma Jocelyn brought a plate of meat skewers out of the cupboard. "Your dad hunted these sparrows. They're fragrant and tender."
"Where is he?" Cecilia hadn't seen him anywhere in the yard.
"He's out helping me chop firewood. It was while your dad was helping me chop wood that he met your mother..." Grandma Jocelyn began to reminisce again.
Holding her food, Cecilia made a swift exit.
Grandma Jocelyn sighed in resignation. 'Doesn't she want to hear even a single word?'
'Sigh. Poor Shaw... he worked so hard all day, and he doesn't get a single word of praise from his daughter.'
