Chapter 4 - CHAPTER 4: How not to worry your mother.......

The opulent silence of Lin Feng's chamber was shattered by his inward focus. Closing his eyes, he willed his nascent spiritual sense down into the depths of his body, towards the infamous, withered dantian.

What he found was not a barren wasteland, but a crime scene.

His meridians weren't just underdeveloped; they were choked. A viscous, tar-like substance clogged every pathway, a metaphysical sludge that repelled spiritual energy.

This wasn't a natural deficiency. As a former master alchemist, the truth was instantly clear: Meridian-Sealing Miasma. A vicious, slow-acting poison administered to a pregnant woman, ensuring her child would be born a spiritual cripple. Someone had sabotaged the Lin family's heir from before his first breath.

Rage, cold and sharp, cut through him. This explained everything. But rage was a luxury for later. Now, he had to perform surgery on his own soul.

He opened the storage bag his father had given him. His spiritual sense swept past glittering spirit stones and sheathed blades. His target was herbal.

He found it: a Blood-Ginseng Root, glowing with a fierce, crimson vitality. It was overkill for a normal Qi Refining cultivator, its energy violent and expansive. Perfect. It was the spiritual equivalent of a pressurized hose to blast through the clogs.

But he was a hose with no pressure. He needed an external pump.

Struggling against the lingering weakness from his beating, he pushed himself upright and shuffled to the door. He was about to call out when the murmurs of the guards outside gave him pause.

"...Elder Lin Hai has diverted a river of resources to Young Master Lin Cheng," one guard muttered, voice low. "Spirit stones, marrow-washing elixirs, the works. All for the Coming of Age Ceremony in three months."

A second voice, gruffer and edged with frustration, replied. "It's a blatant power play. He aims to have his son named Family Young Master, replacing Feng-gongzi. Once that title shifts, the Duke's position as Patriarch weakens. The other ducal houses circle like vultures when they smell blood in the water."

"It's a cruel world," the first guard sighed. "Feng-gongzi... he has a kind heart beneath the folly. But what use is kindness without strength? He remains a target, a burden to his parents. Even the branch family brats dare to trip him in the halls now, no longer fearing consequence."

Clang. The sound of a spear-butt striking stone. "It curdles my blood! The Lin family's strength should be unified against outsiders, not consumed by this internal gnawing! I swore an oath to the Duke, and that extends to his son, regardless of... well, regardless."

Lin Feng's lips thinned. The political rot went deep. He took a steadying breath, letting a sliver of the authority he'd once commanded as a Purple Heaven disciple seep into his bearing. Then, he called out, voice clear and resonant, cutting through the door.

"Attend me!"

The door swung open immediately. The two guards, Lin Chu and Lin Nan, rushed in and dropped to one knee, fists clasped. They expected the petulant, hungover young master. What they saw froze them.

Lin Feng stood by the table, his posture straight despite his pallor. His eyes, once bleary with dissipation, were now deep pools of calm intensity. An indefinable pressure radiated from him—not the brute force of Qi, but the weight of command.

"Young Master!" they chorused.

"What are your names?" Lin Feng asked, his gaze sweeping over them.

"I am Lin Chu, and this is Lin Nan, of the family guard," Lin Chu answered, head bowed.

"Lin Chu. Lin Nan. Good. One of you, fetch my father. Tell him it is urgent concerning my... recovery."

The order was simple, but delivered with an expectation of instant obedience that left no room for question. "At once, Young Master!" Both men bowed and retreated, closing the door with uncommon care.

Outside, Lin Nan wiped a faint sheen of sweat from his brow. "By the ancestors... did you feel that? It was like standing before a sheathed divine weapon. Not a hint of the fool."

Lin Chu nodded grimly. "His eyes... they saw everything. Go. Run. The winds in this household are about to change."

The Family Hall - A Nest of Vipers

The air in the grand Family Hall was thick with the scent of sandalwood and ambition. Lin Dayong sat at the head of the long obsidian table, his face an impassive mask. Arrayed before him were the family elders, his own brothers foremost among the jackals.

"Brother," began Elder Lin Hai, a man with a carefully trimmed goatee and eyes as sharp as coins.

"The Coming of Age Ceremony is a display of the Lin family's future strength. We cannot afford sentiment. The resources—the Nine Revolutions Spirit-Stones, the Dragon-Marrow Elixirs—should flow to where they will yield the greatest return for the family. My Cheng'er is on the verge of breaking through to the late stage of Qi Refining. With support, he could reach Foundation Establishment by the ceremony, a prodigy to make the other ducal houses tremble!"

Elder Lin Biao, broader and more blunt, slammed a meaty fist on the table.

"Hai speaks truth! Your Feng'er... we all grieve his condition. But grief does not win wars or secure alliances. Let him live a comfortable, sheltered life. The title of Family Young Master must go to the strongest seedling. It is the law of the jungle, and we live in a jungle, Brother."

A third brother, Elder Lin Ming, the most cunning of the three, steepled his fingers.

"Dayong, consider the stability. The branch families grow restless. The Chu and Wang families test our borders. Having a weak heir is an invitation for chaos. Redirecting a portion of your direct lineage's resource allocation to Lin Cheng is not an insult; it is an investment in the family's survival. You, of all people, understand sacrifice for the greater good."

Lin Dayong's knuckles were white where they gripped the arm of his chair. The "greater good" was a knife they kept trying to hand him to slit his own son's throat.

"My son has just awoken from a coma," he said, his voice dangerously quiet, the calm before the hurricane. "This discussion is—"

The great doors to the hall burst open. Lin Chu, breathless, knelt at the threshold. "Patriarch! Forgive the intrusion! Young Master Feng has awakened fully and requests your immediate presence! He said it is urgent!"

The reaction was instantaneous. Lin Dayong was on his feet before the guard finished speaking, all pretence of deliberation gone. The relief and concern on his face were naked for a moment before he schooled his features.

Lin Hai scoffed, a sound like dry leaves rustling.

"See? The moment there is serious discussion, the boy finds a way to drag his father away. A child's ploy."

Lin Biao grunted in agreement. "Probably wants more silver for the brothels."

Lin Dayong paused at the door, turning just enough to cast a glacial look over his shoulder. The temperature in the hall seemed to drop.

"You will mind your tongues when speaking of my son in my presence. This session is adjourned." He did not wait for a reply, his cloak swirling as he strode out, leaving behind a roomful of scowling elders and the sour taste of thwarted schemes.

Lin Dayong entered his son's chamber to find Lin Feng seated cross-legged on the jade cultivation mat in the center of the room. The boy looked frail but his gaze was unwavering.

"Father," Lin Feng greeted, with a respectful nod that was so foreign it sent a pang through Lin Dayong's heart.

"I am here, son." He closed the door, sealing them in.

"I am ready. I need you to help me absorb the essence of this Blood-Ginseng first. Please, guide its Qi into my body. I will direct it internally."

Lin Dayong's brow furrowed. "Feng'er... you seem like a different person. Are you sure you're my son?" he asked, the question half a worried jest, half a genuine probe.

"The coma... it granted a moment of clarity," Lin Feng said, evading smoothly.

"I see the world, and my place in it, differently now. Please, father. Trust me."

Moved by the determination in his son's eyes, Lin Dayong nodded. He took the radiant Blood-Ginseng root. With a thought, his immense Saint Realm cultivation flared subtly. The air hummed as pure, fiery energy was extracted from the herb, coalescing into a shimmering crimson stream above his palm.

"Prepare yourself. This will be intense."

He placed a hand on Lin Feng's back. The moment the torrent of herbal Qi entered Lin Feng's body, the young man stiffened. A violent shudder wracked his frame.

It felt as if a river of molten lead and ten thousand needles were forced through his clogged meridians. His skin flushed a painful red, and veins bulged at his temples. A low groan escaped his clenched teeth.

Then, the expulsion began.

From every pore, a foul, jet-black sludge began to ooze. It was thick as tar, carrying the stench of decades of spiritual decay, poisoned milk, medicinal residues from his decadent lifestyle, and the inherent corruption of the Meridian-Sealing Miasma. The reek was abominable, filling the room with the physical proof of the sabotage.

Lin Dayong's eyes widened in shock and dawning fury. This is no simple weakness. This is malice. But he held his Qi steady, his control absolute, following his son's unspoken guidance as the violent energy scoured the primary meridians.

"The second round," Lin Dayong warned, his voice tight. He sent another, more focused wave.

This time, the expulsion was different. Less sludge, more of a thin, blackish blood mixed with silvery-grey particles—the crystallized fragments of the poison and the deepest bodily impurities. Lin Feng gasped, his body trembling with the violent purification.

As the last of the black blood seeped out, leaving him pale and drenched in foulness, Lin Feng spoke, his voice raspy but firm.

"Now, father. I will take the Marrow-Cleansing Pill. Then... I need you to suppress your cultivation to the late stage of Foundation Establishment. And I need you to hit me. With the Lin Family Core Fist."

Lin Dayong recoiled as if struck. "Have you lost your mind? A single fist from a true Foundation Establishment expert could shatter your bones! My control, even suppressed—"

"Please!" Lin Feng's eyes burned with a desperate light.

"This is the only way. The herbs have stirred the Qi and loosened the blockages. The impact will force my sealed meridians to react, to open in self-defense and absorb the medicine's power. Do not hold back. Mercy will ruin it."

He didn't wait for further argument. He produced a milky-white pill—the Marrow-Cleansing Pill—and swallowed it. A cool wave spread from his core, seeking out his bones and deepest tissues.

"Begin!" Lin Feng commanded, staggering to his feet and assuming a basic, open stance.

Lin Dayong saw the absolute resolve. With a heart heavier than a mountain, he gritted his teeth. "Your mother will have my head for this." With a wave of his hand, he erected a translucent golden barrier around the cultivation area, sealing in sound and Qi fluctuations.

He took a breath, and his vast aura collapsed inwards, settling at the peak of Foundation Establishment. He shifted into the opening stance of the Lin Family Core Fist, a basic technique for tempering the body and spirit of first-year disciples, but in his hands, it was simplicity distilled to deadly potency.

First Move: Dragon Awakens.

His fist did not seem fast, but it carried a weight that distorted the air. It landed with a muffled BOOM on Lin Feng's chest. The sound was not of breaking bone, but of immense pressure being applied.

Lin Feng was hurled backwards like a ragdoll, crashing against the golden barrier before slumping to the floor, a trickle of fresh, red blood joining the black filth on his lips.

Lin Dayong's heart clenched.

Before he could step forward, Lin Feng pushed himself up on shaking arms, his eyes blazing. "Again!"

The door to the chamber chose that moment to open. Madam Su Xinya stood there, a tray of steaming medicinal soup in her hands. She had come to check on her precious son.

Her eyes took in the scene: her husband, aura raging, fist drawn back. Her son, bloody, filthy, and bruised, being hurled through the air by another terrifying blow.

CRASH. The tray fell from nerveless fingers, porcelain shattering, soup splashing across the floor.

Her face, initially frozen in confusion, shattered into pure, unadulterated horror. A scream tore from her throat, raw and piercing.

"LIN DAYONG! HAVE YOU GONE MAD? YOU'RE KILLING HIM! STOP! STOP IT!" She lunged forward, but the golden barrier repelled her gently yet firmly.

She beat against it with her fists, her cries becoming a torrent of anguish and fury.

"He's your son! Your only son! Is this your punishment? I'll never forgive you! I'll burn this mansion down! FENG'ER!"

She slid down the barrier, sobbing uncontrollably, utterly unaware that the violence she witnessed was not punishment, but salvation.

Inside the barrier, Lin Dayong flinched with every one of his wife's screams, but his son's unwavering gaze held him to the task.

Move Five: Mountain-Splitting Hammer.

Move Ten: River-Diverting Blow.

Move Fifteen: Star-Felling Punch.

With each earth-shaking impact, Lin Feng's body jolted. But with each impact, a corresponding internal boom echoed. His meridians, under the dual assault of the pill's cleansing power and the external concussive force, began to vibrate, to crack open like parched earth accepting rain.

The filth and black blood flow increased, then gradually began to lessen, replaced by a faint, steamy heat radiating from his skin.

Move Twenty: Heaven-And-Earth Reversal.

The final fist landed. A sound like a distant thunderclap emanated from within Lin Feng's body. A visible shockwave of grimy Qi, the last of the clogging miasma, erupted from him, soiling the barrier. Then, silence.

For a moment, nothing. Then, a pure, clean energy—the first untainted spiritual energy his body had ever produced—began to circulate. It was weak, but it was there. It flowed from his dantian, through his newly opened meridians, in a complete, unbroken circuit.

Without a word, covered in blood and filth, Lin Feng sat back down on the mat. He pulled out three Qi Condensation Pills and swallowed them all. He gritted his teeth as a new, searing but clean pain erupted—the pain of rapid advancement.

The energy churned within him, no longer blocked, no longer poisoned.

Qi Refining, First Stage: His dantian ignited, a tiny, steady flame.

Qi Refining, Second Stage: The flame surged, the energy thickening, cycling faster.

Qi Refining, Third Stage: With a final, silent pop of breaking through an invisible barrier, his aura stabilized. A faint, visible shimmer of clean, white Qi haloed his body for an instant before sinking into his skin.

He opened his eyes. They were clear, deep, and held a glint of sharp, reborn power. He was thin, battered, and sat in a circle of horrific filth. But he was, for the first time in this life's memory, a cultivator.

Outside the barrier, Madam Lin had fainted from hysterical exhaustion, slumped against a couch. Lin Dayong, his own face streaked with uncharacteristic sweat and emotion, dissolved the barrier.

The stench hit him anew, but beneath it, he sensed it—the faint, clean, steady pulse of Qi from his son.

He looked from his unconscious wife to his son, who met his gaze and gave a small, exhausted, but triumphant nod.

Lin Dayong knew the shouting from his wife would be epic, world-shaking, and would likely last for days. He also knew, with absolute certainty, that everything had just changed.

The real storm for the Lin family was not in his wife's anger, but in the quiet, determined eyes of his reborn son, now sitting in the eye of his own hurricane.
