Chapter 3 - Silence of the Echoed Room

After some time, David came out of the bathroom. Even after a bath, his eyes looked tired, the dark circles telling a story of their own. Carelessly, he walked from the hallway to the bedroom.

Surprisingly, the room was well maintained. It almost felt like no one had touched it for a long time, yet there was no dust.

"Which one for today?" he mumbled to himself. His voice was tired, almost like a silent vibration.

After giving it some thought, he picked the black suit. No special reason, just a random selection.

Before leaving the room, he took one final long look.

"..."

He opened his mouth to say something but stopped, clenched his teeth, and closed the door.

In the dining room, two slices of bread and jam were waiting for him. After blankly staring at the table, he mumbled, "Sometimes… it just—" He stopped, not wanting to continue.

In the silence of the empty room, he finished his breakfast.

After finishing, he tried to tidy up the living room mess. In a hurry, he picked up the keys.

Before leaving, he looked at the emptiness inside the house.

"Without you… it's just unbearable."

He locked the main door. Before leaving, he checked it twice.

As he walked along the narrow pathway toward the elevator, he remained cautious of his surroundings, or maybe the doors.

A door suddenly opened. A well-dressed woman stepped out, her beauty worth noting. As she locked her door, the keys slipped through her hands.

"Clumsy as always." A thought crossed his mind. Not that he meant to judge, just an old, familiar observation.

Without him noticing, their eyes met.

"Hello, Mr. David."

"Oh… hello, Miss Lucy."

The greeting was sudden and unexpected, and her clumsy nature didn't help ease the moment.

"I'm glad I ran into you. Actually, I wanted"

David interrupted her before she could finish.

"If it's about that, you don't have to. I already forgot about it."

"But still..."

"I would love to talk with you, Miss Lucy, but I'm running late. Please excuse me."

"Oh… of course."

And the short conversation came to an end. Lucy still looked confused about everything.

As David walked away again, he heard Lucy's voice, but something was different.

"He#ehe#… You we₹€ re#sp#ons!bl€, for her de@t#. "

David's eyes widened as he heard the words; he turned back. For a moment, he thought he saw Lucy smiling maniacally.

"What?"

"What happened, Mr. David? Are you okay?"

Without realizing it, he was staring at her.

"S-sorry. I thought you just called out to me. I think I'm just hearing things."

"Okay, if you say so."

Without waiting for any more words, he kept walking, looking just at the elevator.

"That was close."
