Chapter 168: His Strength Is Beneath Mine — Controlling Jiang Chen with Wisdom Won't Be a Problem!
"So this really is the Dragon Tomb?"
"You… actually didn't lie to me?"
Gu Yue waved her hand casually, and the charging Crimson Armored Earth Dragon exploded into shards of energy. Its essence tried to fuse into her body, but she blocked it off with her spiritual power, looking utterly disgusted.
"Hey—come on, that was still one of your kin!" Jiang Chen said, half exasperated, half amused. He quickly summoned the Silver Dragon Spear and absorbed the dragon soul himself.
This was draconic energy; bit by bit, it could be valuable. Wasting it would be a crime.
Gu Yue snorted. "Just a mindless energy entity born from dragon corpses. It desecrates the true dragons. Death is mercy for such filth."
In her eyes, these wandering spirits didn't even deserve to be called members of the dragon race. To her, the only true dragons left were herself and Di Tian—
perhaps a handful more who merely carried diluted draconic blood.
There were no others.
Jiang Chen twitched a smile. If she ever learned that, in another ten thousand years, the Longma Galaxy would rise from this very tomb to birth a new dragon race… what would she think then?
"Well, if that's how you feel, then don't mind me being greedy!"
He immediately stored the energy within his miniature divine realm, letting it cycle as fuel for his formation array.
"A divine realm? You really went and created immortal spiritual energy of your own?"
The Silver Dragon Spear was still connected to her—even if Jiang Chen was its current wielder, as its true master, she could sense everything it felt with a mere thought.
When he channeled the absorbed soul into his small world, she could actually feel a faint structure—a proto–divine realm—forming within it.
"Yeah," Jiang Chen admitted easily. "It's the foundation of godhood. If one holds only a divine position but no divine realm, that godhood will collapse like an illusion. Unlike soul beasts, humans have limited lifespans—even divine ones can't live long without a realm to generate divine energy."
"Not bad."
Gu Yue glanced at him differently, impressed despite herself. She'd thought of him as a cunning but simple-minded million-year soul beast—
yet he possessed this level of insight?
Could he… truly reach godhood one day?
If he did, it would be monumental for the soul beast race—a symbol of hope.
As for her previous disdain toward beasts who turned human, she had long stopped caring.
The two of them advanced together, the Silver Dragon Spear piercing through dragon souls one by one, feeding them to Jiang Chen's divine realm as energy.
Since Gu Yue didn't recognize them as true dragons, he no longer restrained himself.
Absorb, absorb, absorb!
While others might wander the vast valley searching aimlessly for the tomb, Gu Yue didn't even need her eyes.
She knew this place by heart.
They didn't need to follow anyone else.
Another dragon spirit appeared before them—a blazing Fire Dragon, wings flaring, its eyes burning with immortal flame.
The Silver Dragon Spear flew forth once more.
With a single anguished roar, the draconic apparition dissipated, its energy flowing obediently into Jiang Chen's divine realm.
"Follow me," Gu Yue commanded, her voice trembling with excitement.
The Dragon God's Heart—her true objective—was close.
"Wait for me!" Jiang Chen called, driving the Silver Dragon Spear into the ground. It spun in place, forming a vortex, continuously siphoning lingering dragon souls.
"We'll come back for it later," he said carelessly.
No one else could touch it anyway, and Gu Yue could always summon it back if needed.
He inhaled deeply, feeling the faint suppression pressing against his martial soul.
Even as a million-year soul beast—the Dark Demon Evil God Tiger—with a divine bloodline, he still felt the Dragon Valley's restraint.
He could break it. But there was no need.
If he stirred too much, he might awaken one of the Nine Dragon Kings—or worse, the Dragon God's own fragment of will.
He'd rather let Gu Yue take the lead and follow her safely.
They reached the valley's towering rim—a gargantuan basin where mist rolled endlessly through the air.
From the cliff's edge, the land sank a thousand meters deep.
The scene below froze them both.
Countless massive bones filled every corner of the basin; titanic spines, shattered skulls, rib cages stacked like mountain ranges.
A deep, ineffable sorrow rose from the ground itself.
Gu Yue clenched her jaw, barely suppressing the urge to roar her grief to the heavens.
"This is it. The Dragon Tomb."
She grabbed Jiang Chen's hand protectively.
As a non-dragon, he would crumble under the raw draconic might here without her shelter.
She tore open the space around them, bringing them to the tomb's center.
The moment they landed, the weight of sorrow enveloped them completely. The anguish of thousands of ancient dragons pressed against their minds, threatening to crush them.
Only Gu Yue's silver aura held it at bay.
"Are you alright?" Jiang Chen asked, concern flickering in his eyes.
He could barely withstand this pressure himself—what of the Silver Dragon King, faced with the death cries of her entire race?
"I'm fine."
Her voice was cold, restrained.
Everywhere they looked, colossal bones lay scattered in desolation—unburied, unhonored.
No graves. No monuments.
Just forgotten titans.
Jiang Chen exhaled softly, drew forth the Golden Dragon Spear, and drove it into a nearby skeleton.
Instantly, the weapon's devouring force activated, drinking the ancient energy from the remains.
"Jiang Chen! What are you doing?!"
He turned and found Gu Yue staring at him, fury burning in her eyes.
"What else? Absorbing strength—to forge my divine realm!" he said easily. "We agreed on this, didn't we?"
"You—!"
The fury within her swelled at the sight, the cries of the fallen dragons echoing around her mind.
Finally, she huffed sharply. "Forget it."
She knew what he sought, and she exhausted her mental power to drive away the oppressive grief surrounding them.
"Do as you please."
Though born of the dragon race, Gu Yue's emotional connection to these remains was weak. Her expression steadied, and Jiang Chen sighed in relief.
"Don't worry," he said, "I won't forget the dragons' kindness. When my divine realm is born and I attain godhood, I'll ensure soul beasts can live within it too. A powerhouse like Di Tian—he'll ascend as well."
Di Tian—the Gold-Eyed Black Dragon King, heir of the Dark Dragon lineage, one of the Nine Dragon Kings. Had there been no Dragon God's shadow looming above them, he would likely have already achieved godhood himself.
Count on Gu Yue?
No, thanks.
He feared she'd end up turning him into some cosmic spaceship, fulfilling her dream of wandering the universe. That would be quite a tragic punchline.
"I didn't expect the Golden Dragon Spear to be in your hands," Gu Yue said finally, her tone softening.
Blocking out the tomb's grief completely, she looked at him in surprise—and for the first time, admiration.
He had prepared thoroughly. Perhaps… he really could ascend.
If so, she'd help him.
After all, wasn't he hers now?
The woman who was about to claim the Dragon God's Heart had unconsciously accepted him as her own.
Even if he forged his divine realm and rose to the heavens, he would never surpass her.
At best, he'd become a second-tier or maybe a first-tier god. A newborn god realm could never reach king-level divinity.
His power would always remain below hers. With her intelligence, keeping him under control would be effortless.
"Go on," she said calmly. "Do what you must."
