I gave him a helpless smile because there was really nothing I could do about it. I couldn't control where the kids went or who they wanted to be around. I couldn't control the fact that chocolate bread was more interesting than whatever he was talking about. But that seemed to piss him off even more. His expression tightened, his jaw clenched, and he looked even more annoyed than he was before.
Why did he hate me so much? He had no reason to hate me. If there was anyone who was supposed to be annoyed for any reason, it should be me. I had more than enough reason to hate him.
