Chapter 62 - Car Business [1]

We looked at the Vapor library for a while, while catching up. We decided on a small co-op game that looked like it would be fun.

The game didn't take long to download.

While we played we talked for over an hour before I made a comment, "Man, these computers are getting expensive. That old computer I had was only $1,000 and lasted me like 7 years before it couldn't keep up. This new one cost like $2,800."

"Well, yeah. Computers have advanced so they cost more. But the main increase is RAM. All of these companies building AI server farms are really running up the price of RAM."

"Do you think it will keep getting more expensive?"

"Yeah, I don't see why it wouldn't. If they can charge more then they will charge more."

"Yeah, you're right. Hey, let's say you start your own RAM manufacturing business where would you base it?"

"I don't know. Probably in Yamato, they have some good production there."

"Yeah, right, production. More like you would rather just move there."

"No, really. They have a few well known car brands there, like Toyama. You know that."

"Yeah, I guess that's true."

After that we went back to playing the game and talking about that.

Once it hit 11:00 I decided to call it a night. It had been a long day and I was tired.

The next day. I woke up at 6:00 and went into my office and started transferring the files.

Everything should have its place. The stock data went into 2 hard drives and the hacking data into one hard drive.

Once that was done I started unplugging the old desktop, it was time for it to have a new home.

I loaded it along with all of the necessary parts and the satellite that got delivered yesterday.

Then I drove to the warehouse, where I found Layla's car parked out front.

I went to test the door and it was unlocked, so I walked right in.

Layla was inside cleaning out a rusty old pick up truck.

I walked up behind her and asked, "What's this?"

"Holy Shi-" Layla jumped in surprise, "I didn't hear you come in."

"So, what's this?"

"Oh, this? This is an old pick up truck, it barely runs, but I managed to pick it up for $200."

"Cool, but how did you get it here?"

"I'm friends with a guy who owns a junk yard, he has a tow truck and helped me out."

"Right, I remember. Is this the first project then?"

"Yeah, I'm recording on my phone right there."

Sure enough, Layla had set up a tripod ring light that was holding her phone.

"Cool. Well, I was just going to set up the computer, install the satellite, and optimize the solar panels."

"Alright."

I left Layla to her work, and got the things out of the car.

When looking for a place to put the computer I finally took notice of the layout of the warehouse.

The front of the warehouse had a large garage door that opened to 10 feet and was on the left side, the right side had a door. Once you entered through the door there were a few feet until you saw a wall with a door.

The wall went to the ceiling and the door led to the restroom. The restroom had a toilet and a sink. Outside the bathroom looked like a box that went from the floor to the ceiling.

On the other side of the box from the door was where Layla put her work benches. The workbenches lined the backside of the bathroom and wrapped along the wall of the warehouse.

The workbenches were very utilitarian; they were just 2 by 4s with cross braces and thick plywood on top. The tops, already covered in tools.

The car and scissor lift were diagonal across from the workbenches making a triangle.

The left side of the warehouse was exceptionally bare.

I decided to take up a little space on the workbenches to put the computer. I chose the space on the very end by the outer corner of the box.

I set up the computer, plugged it in, and started it up. It came to life with no problem.

Now it was time to climb onto the roof to install the satellite. I got up there in the early morning sun and managed to install it and feed the ethernet cable inside.

I got the computer hooked up to the internet and used the AR glasses to remotely hack into the servers to set up the satellite like I have done with the others.

Once I was done with that I moved over to downloading a few different AI models.

One was a generative AI technique that allowed designers to input sketches and engineering constraints to create optimized, manufacturable designs.

The second was a deep learning AI that would need vast amounts of data related to engineering results that allowed for real time 3D simulation of aerodynamics and structural performance.

The first AI creates the data the second AI needs to test. A good little combo.

Now I just have to download a massive amount of data for these to work.

I also decided to install some 3D rendering software to apply to the AI later. First I need to buy some cameras.

But before I do that I need to make sure I can afford everything I need first.

I have $2,000,000 to work with. The metal 3D printer I want is actually only $250,000. The one I had seen earlier was the largest version that I simply won't have a need for.

I also plan on setting up a scanning area to scan things I have upgraded to save the changes to hopefully recreate them.

I will need a 3D scanner as well as a penetration scanner. The 3D scanners are cheap at only $5,000 but the penetration scanner cost $295,000.

Both aluminum and steel are fairly cheap at only a few grand per ton. Since cars are primarily made out of that and plastic I should be fine.
