There was a problem with the logistics and provisions, and Joffrey also sent a letter to Mufasa asking how to deal with Mace Tyrell.
His suggestion was to imprison Mace Tyrell, just like Eddard Stark.
Mufasa thought Little Joff still acted without thinking!
Mace Tyrell hadn't committed any major errors, so how could he just arrest a Duke like that?
However, Joffrey was a man of action; he had already arrested Mace Tyrell seven days after writing to Mufasa. He hadn't mentioned it in the letter.
[Writing this, I hope readers remember our domain w̆̈̆̈k̆̈̆̈̆̈ă̈̆̈n̆̈̆̈.c̆̈̆̈ŏ̈̆̈m̆̈̆̈ for easy reading]
Three days after Mufasa received Joffrey's letter, he received a plea for help from Margaery.
In her letter, she said that her father had been arrested by Joffrey and she asked Mufasa to persuade Joffrey to release him.
"Little Joff, you really are a handful. But why didn't Jaime, Cersei, and Tywin stop him?" Mufasa thought after reading Margaery's letter. He couldn't figure it out.
"Forget it, there's nothing unusual at The Wall right now, so I'll go back alone and take a look!" Mufasa said.
He found Lord Commander Mormont and Ser Kevan, told them about it, and entrusted them with the task of repairing The Wall's castles and contacting the expeditionary force Beyond the Wall.
Then Mufasa mounted Heraka and flew south alone.
Little Joff once thought about making a saddle for Heraka, but it grew too fast, so the finished saddle couldn't be used, and Mufasa stopped making saddles for Heraka.
Anyway, it had a lot of fur; he could just grab a handful when riding on its back, and it was very stable when flying, so he wasn't afraid of falling.
To prevent any special circumstances, Mufasa also left Melisandre on The Wall.
In King's Landing, in The White Sword Tower, Eddard Stark looked at his new cellmate with a hint of amusement.
Both of them, two Dukes, were imprisoned here.
"Lord Eddard, I never thought I'd see this day!" Mace Tyrell sighed.
"Lord Mace, The Reach has never experienced a locust plague since ancient times, so why are there so many locusts this time?" Eddard Stark asked.
Even though he was under house arrest here, he had heard about the dire situation in The Reach from the Knights of the Round Table.
"Not a single grain harvested!" It was that bad.
"I suspect this is a conspiracy by the Dornish, who have been our sworn enemies for thousands of years in The Reach," Mace Tyrell said.
"I hope Prince Doran can personally come forward to explain the situation and allow your two realms to resolve the dispute peacefully," Eddard Stark said.
Highgarden, Willas Tyrell had just returned from outside the city, covered in wounds. He had been surrounded by locusts and bitten many times.
"Damn it, these locusts don't seem like ordinary locusts; they're black, have they mutated?"
Willas thought.
"The locusts flew from the direction of Dorne; they couldn't have flown over the sea, so they must have come from within Dorne. Are they trying to start a war with us?"
Willas was very anxious, but Prince Doran was even more anxious than him.
They had experimented with the drip irrigation planting method Mufasa had mentioned, and it was very good at first, but they not only dug out groundwater but also dug out insect eggs from the underground desert.
The insect eggs were tiny, mixed in with the sand, almost invisible. They were originally yellow, but once they saw sunlight, they immediately turned black within a day and then began to frantically devour the surrounding food. Dorne had little food, so the locusts moved north. The Stormlands often rained, and the locusts were unwilling to approach, so they came to The Reach.
The Reach, with its abundant grain, was the most important grain-producing region in all of Westeros.
The locusts wreaked havoc throughout The Reach, devouring all the grain in the fields, and even began to swarm into the granaries.
There was no good way to deal with locusts, as they were small, could fly, and were vast in number.
Some Earls used fire and smoke, intending to drive them away.
Some Earls planned to have flocks of chickens, ducks, and geese eat the locusts. They even intended to send crows into battle.
Birds are always the natural predators of insects, but there aren't many birds in Westeros, and not all of them like to eat locusts.
Too many locusts could even bite chickens and ducks to death.
When Mufasa arrived in The Riverlands, he also encountered small groups of locusts.
"Has the locust plague already reached here? Then the situation in The Reach must be even worse than I imagined?" Mufasa said.
"First, return to King's Landing!"
Mufasa sped up and arrived at King's Landing, flying directly into The Red Keep on Heraka.
Joffrey, Myrcella, and others were both surprised and delighted by Mufasa's arrival.
"Mufasa, why are you back?" Joffrey happily walked over and gave Mufasa a bear hug.
Myrcella followed closely, hugging Mufasa's shoulders tightly.
"Little Joff, I heard you imprisoned Mace Tyrell, quickly release him!" Mufasa said.
"Imprisoning two Dukes at once, this is something even Aerys wouldn't dare to do, and he was the infamous Mad King!" Mufasa said.
"He was responsible for managing the logistics and provisions; if there's a problem, he naturally needs to be questioned!" Joffrey said.
"However, since you've spoken, I naturally can't refuse. Release him then," Joffrey said.
"Can Eddard Stark be released too?" Mufasa asked.
"He is the Duke of the North; we need his cooperation to act in the Northern territories," Mufasa said.
"Him!" Joffrey deliberated for a long time but still followed Mufasa's suggestion. Since he was young, whenever he was indecisive, he would listen to Mufasa, and it had never gone wrong.
"I'll go to The White Sword Tower right now and bring them both out," Mufasa said. He immediately headed towards The White Sword Tower.
"I'll go with you!" Myrcella called out, following closely.
"Cousin Mufasa, how did you know about Mace Tyrell's house arrest? Did Margaery write to you?" Myrcella asked on the way.
"Yes, she wrote the letter," Mufasa said.
"Then can I also communicate with you anytime in the future?" she asked.
"You! It's best not to communicate with me too often. The Grand Maester has a limited number of ravens, all used to transmit important information. Perhaps at critical moments, every raven can bring an opportunity that can turn the tide," Mufasa said.
Upon hearing this, Myrcella immediately became unhappy, and she stomped hard on Mufasa's foot.
"Hmph, I'm not talking to you!" She turned her head and walked away.
Mufasa sighed, set aside her capriciousness for a moment, and then arrived at The White Sword Tower.
There was a knight guarding, or rather, watching over, here at all times. Today, it was Ser Meryn Trant, the knight who was injured by Syrio and fled.
